Thilakan gears up for politics IANS
Thespian Thilakan Monday said he would contest against Kerala legislator K.B. Ganesh Kumar in the assembly elections, after the car of his film director was allegedly stoned by miscreants belonging to Kumar's party.
Thilakan told IANS that even though his field was not politics, he will contest against Kumar, if any party approaches him.
"He (Kumar) has been scheming against me for long and I will take the fight into his camp," Thilakan said.
Thilakan's statement comes following charges that some miscreants allegedly belonging to Kumar's party, Kerala Congress (B) stoned the car of director Ali Akbar in the wee hours Monday at Kozhikode.
Speaking to the media, Akbar, who is the director of Thilakan's new film, said there is no doubt that the people behind the attack are activists of Kerala Congress (B) who had earlier said that they would not allow work on the film to be carried out.
"When I woke up today (Monday) morning I found my Maruti van's windscreen smashed," said Akbar.
"There are just two characters in the film titled 'Achen' and Thilakan plays the central role. We are not going to be cowed down by such threats. The police has already registered a case," Akbar said.
This incident has taken place a day after the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) gave the green signal for the ouster of Thilakan from their fraternity. Kumar is an office bearer of the AMMA.
Thilakan was ousted from AMMA in April on the grounds of violating discipline and since then he has not been getting any film offers.
But Akbar had announced that he will cast Thilakan in his new film slated to begin shortly.

Reacting to the attack, Kumar's father and veteran Kerala politician R. Balakrishnan Pillai denied that his party workers were behind the attack.

"I don't think my party men will do such an act. In fact I wish to see Thilakan act in more number of films," said Pillai.
Kumar is the lone legislator of his party and sits in the opposition. This is his second outing in the assembly and both times he won from the Pathanapuram constituency in Kollam district. He was the transport minister in the A.K. Antony cabinet from 2001-03.
Thilakan to apply for a gun license!
Actor Thilakan said that he was planning to apply for a gun license immediately. This was in view of the attack today morning against director Ali Akbar's car.
Thilakan said that those who were with him were being attacked. It's only natural that he fears that there might be attacks against him too.
The actor also alleged that Ali Akbar was attacked because he had decided to direct the film 'Achan' with Thilakan in the lead.
A group of unknown assailants had earlier in the morning pelted stones at director Ali Akbar's car that was parked at his residence. The car was smashed in the attack.

Thilakan expelled officially
The general body meeting of AMMA, (Association of Malayalam movie Artists), which met at Kochi yesterday has endorsed the decision taken in regard of expulsion of life membership of Thilakan from the organisation.
The veteran was expelled for indiscipline and for his unbearable 'out bursts against the organisation and its members'. The meeting also decided to proceed with the case against renowned Malayalam writer Sukumar Azhikode for his criticism against AMMA leaders, especially against its secretary. The other issues that came up for discussion included the need for maintaining a sense of discipline on shooting sets, including punctuality and avoiding the use of mobile phones, which were welcomed by all. The meeting also decided to extend 'Kaineettam' (financial assistance) to four more artists, and to conduct stages on February for raising money for assistance to aged members.
The annual general body meeting was attended by leading artistes like superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Nedumudi Venu, Jagadheesh and veteran actor Madhu.

AMMA General Body endorses decision to expel Tilakan
Veteran Malayalam actor Tilakan was today expelled from the life membership of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for "indiscipline" over his outbursts against the forum and senior actors.
The general body of AMMA at its meeting here endorsed the decision taken in this regard by its executive committee held in April five, Association president Innocent and Secretary Mohanlal told reporters.
Today's meeting also decided to proceed with the case against renowned Malayalam writer Sukumar Azhikode, for his criticism against AMMA leaders and specially against its secretary.
Tilakan was suspended from the AMMA on March 1 over his "unbearable" attacks on the forum and other senior actors after he was denied a role in a film.
The meeting also decided to extend 'Kaineettam' (financial assistance) to four more artists.

Kerala Box Office (June 1 to 15, 2010)
Mammootty- Prithviraj Pokkiri Raja still rules the roost at the number one position. Five weeks since its release the film has grossed a whopping Rs 16.10 Crore. In Ernakulam the distributors share from Kavitha has touched Rs 25 lakhs, while in Thiruvananthapuram it is hovering around Rs 22 lakhs from Dhanya and Remya.
Pokkiri Raja's distributors share in 35 days from 85 releasing stations is approximately Rs 7.35 crore, which is fabulous. It means already producer Tommychin Mulagupadam who must have spent around Rs 5.5 Crore for the film including print and publicity , must be laughing all the way to the bank.
The big surprise is that Urvasi and Archana Kavi's family story directed by Jithu Joseph Mummy and Me, has picked up with the lady audiences and is in the number two position . The trade says the film made at a cost around Rs 2.25 Crore will be more profitable than a Mohanlal film for its distributors Max Lab!
At number three is Dileep's Pappi Appacha, which covered its cost from release stations and is a super hit. In the fourth position is Sathyan Anthikad's Katha Thudaranu an average grosser that may break even for its producers if you take into consideration the television rights of the film which went for a record Rs 1.85 Crore.
Two weeks after its world release Suriya's Tamil action entertainer Singam released in Malabar area of the state and is said to be in an average grosser. The film which is at number five, would have been in a higher position if it was released simultaneously with Tamil Nadu

Lal planning two with Mammootty
Mammootty is sitting pretty in Malayalam filmdom with big success of Pokkiri Raja. The producers and directors are making a beeline to Mammootty and as results his films are announced every fortnight.
The latest buzz is that Mammootty will do a two movie for Lal Creations. After the stupendous success of Thommanum Makkalum and Pothanvava, they come together for sequel of their old blockbuster Hitler. Lal will now write the story; screenplay and dialogues for sequel of Hitler and his home production will produce it.

The latest buzz is that Mammootty will do a two movie for Lal Creations. After the stupendous success of Thommanum Makkalum and Pothanvava, they come together for sequel of their old blockbuster Hitler. Lal will now write the story; screenplay and dialogues for sequel of Hitler and his home production will produce it.

Mammootty's KuttiSrank to be released on July 23
Mammootty-Shaji N Karun team's KuttiSrank after being screened in several international film festivals will be released in theatres on July 23.The story is about a boat driver in Kerala in the 1950's who travels along the length and breadth of Kerala. He stays with people close to him and has a female companion in all these places. The movie portrays the lifestyle of the people in Travancore, Kochi and Malabar and takes the audience through different seasons - summer, monsoon and winter. The script is by journalist Harikrishnan and PF Mathews. This is the first Malayalam movie to be produced by Reliance Big Pictures. Padmapriya and Kamalini Mukherjee plays the lead female roles.
Ranjith Sankar bags the Lohitadas Puraskaram
- Young and promising director Ranjith Sankar who had stormed the industry with a remarkable debut film - Passenger - last year, has bagged the Lohitadas Puraskaram.
The award would be handed over to Ranjith by Mammootty on a special ceremony to be held on the 27th of this month at Chalakkudi.
Directors Siby Malayil and Sundardas announced the award at a press conference.
Priyamani to be Pranchi's heroine
National award winning actress Priyamani would be seen opposite Mammootty for the first time in Ranjith's forthcoming film.
Titled 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' the film has already become the talk among film circles.
The film that is a satire would have Mammootty doing the role of a rice vendor based in Thrissur.
For Priya, this is the first opportunity to act opposite the Megastar. It should be remembered that Ranjith himself had offered her the role of a lifetime earlier in his 'Thirakkatha'.

Moser Baer releases 'Pazhassi Raja' Blu-ray discs
For the first time, the Blu-ray discs of a Malayalam film have been released by Moser Baer.
'Pazhassi Raja', the epic film that had swept the state last year, and the DVD sales of which had set new sales records, has been released on Blu-ray as well.
The Blu-ray disc has been priced at 799 rupees.
The Blu-ray disc was released at a special programme organized at the Gokulam Convention Centre. The function was attended by Mammootty, Sabu Cherian and the representatives of Moser Baer company.

Pazhassi scripts released
''Cinema is a logical amalgamation of seven arts'', observed master scriptwriter M T Vasudevan Nair. "And I had made careful preparation for this while scripting the movie 'Pazhassi Raja'. I had to do thorough research and to collect information from many historical resources before completing Pazhassi Raja", M T was talking in the function organised to release the scripts of magnum pus movie 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja'.
Megastar Mammootty, who inaugurated the function, said that he had been much lucky to get most of the best characters written by M T, which helped him to reach the stature of the cine artist that he is now. The director of movie, Hariharan handed over the first copy of the book to the producer of the movie, Gokulam Gopalan.
Current Books, Thrissur is the official publisher of the scripts in book format.
