The engagement function was held last Thursday at Taj Coromandel hotel, Chennai, which was attended by very few close relatives of the bride and groom.

Mohanlal should be stripped of honorary Lt.Colonel rank:Azhikode
Azhikode has asked Defence Minister A.K. Antony to recommend to President Pratibha Patil to strip Mohanlal of the honorary commission in the Territorial Army.
"It is really a shame that superstars are involved in evading tax and they are doing it by exploiting their innocent fans," Azhikode told reporters here Friday a few hours after the IT raids began at Mohanlal's residences and offices in various cities.
The IT department sprang a surprise and arrived at the homes and offices of superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty early Friday morning and the searches for hidden wealth and undeclared income were still going on by Friday afternoon.
Mohanlal was given an honorary commission in the Territorial Army for his various roles in Malayalam films which portrayed him as a defence officer.
Mohanlal and Azhikode have been engaged in a war of words since last year when the superstar called the writer a mentally deranged person.
Azhikode filed a defamation case against Mohanlal for making the comment and a legal notice was served to Mohanlal asking him to either apologise or face legal action.
Last month Mohanlal had secured bail in the case.
The tiff started after Azhikode supported thespian Thilakan, who was served a show cause notice by Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and was subsequently booted out of the actors' body on grounds of indiscipline.
Last year, Azhikode lashed out at Mohanlal and said that he has become old and should limit himself to roles matching his age and figure. He also added that Mohanlal should stop selling the recognition and popularity that he enjoyed and that he should stop making money endorsing jewellery brands.
Mohanlal hit back a few days later, saying that Azhikode must be having some "hallucinations" and that he considered his statements as some "aged uncle's joke". He also said that whether he should stop acting or not is none of Azhikode's concern.
Azhikode retired as Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calicut University in 1986 and has since then kept himself busy as an orator.

Babu janardanan the famous script writer who always take up this sort of subjects which was earlier tried by some directors before and try to make it perfect. This time also he tried the same with terrorism affecting a innocent mans life as subject. Special thanks for babu who used a new style of narration .
Many Malayalam directors tried the same with anwar being a recent one. But this subject never gave a hit to Malayalam. But this time babu janardan who is doing his first directoral venture is going to create history. He have made the movie so perfect that hardly any critic viewer can find any negative as such in the movie except for the climax which may be half charged for a good piece of work. Babu's first directoral venture will not go in vain like what usually happened to his good scripts. For Bombay march 12 his scripts is too perfect as before.
Moving to the actors area many people expected mammootty to give a role of his life time in Bombay march but there was a too little space for the same except some good moments in the first half of the movie mammootty dint have to show his acting skills. But the role he got was deserved only to him who made the role a memorable one. He may not get a national award for the same but he made an impact as if this role will be in the heart of each malayalee for ever. He is coming in two roles which stands at 2 extremes out of which one role is more important.
The much noticeable roles were that of roma who did a serious character for the first time and if you see the acting your hands would clap for themselves without your knowledge. Next Krishna who previously assisted lohithadas did the role of shajahan he is too brilliant that no one can comment for him. Let the young stars of Malayalam see his performance before commenting that no one is there in Malayalam for competition.
Another noticeable role was that of saadique who had been there in the field for many time getting such a serious role for the first time were he donned.
Music by afzal deserves special mention and applause.
The back ground score was too good to pace and create the feel ing in the minds of the viewers.
The only negative which can be pointed is the climax. The film ends like "kaiyoppu" , "kireedom" or may be "achanurangathe veedu" were the person who is under going bad situation in the movie throughout may not gain anything the film ends as such.
This movie is definitely not a masala entertainer but something which makes the viewer to think a lot.
Verdict-for a serious movie lover this is going to end on higher side ever
And if you are not a serious movie lover watch this so that the minute film ends you are going to be a serious film lover.
As a malayalee don't miss this rare piece .
metromatinee.com bombay march review
The film is based on the real life riot incident and bombings that hit Mumbai on March 12, 1993. The film depicts the effect the incident had on the locals of Mumbai and particularly revolves around the effects of the blasts in the lives of common men. The story revolves around Sanathana Bhat(Mammootty), a Hindu priest, who later converts to Islam and becomes Sameer, a Municipality worker. He gets married to Abida (Roma), a young Muslim woman from a village in Kerala. Sameer and Abida have premonitions about the bomb blasts, which change the course of their lives forever.
The film is interesting in parts, but the Best is reserved for the finale. The movie scores points at almost all levels till start to end. The film is filled with several twists and turns. The subplots and there are several are as well-developed as the main story. The pace of the film is just right, it has moments of realistic drama flick."Bombay March 12" is evidently a cut above the rest of the movies in its genre, and what grants it this recognition is its story and screenplay. The ongoings are authentically presented, while maintaining all the necessary ingredients for entertainment. Its not ridiculously predictable like most commercial ventures, but is not dark or miserable like a stereotypical art venture, keeps the perfect balance.
Mammootty delivers a striking performance who discovers that sometimes unclear pathways are revealed before you at the most unforeseen moments. He undoubtedly single-most popularly appealing factor in the film, and it's no surprise he steals the show and walks away with loudest applause. Megastar's expressions, voice and movement bring the character to life. Jaikrishna(Unni Mukundhan), new face has done his role with felicity. His presence and expressions register a strong impact. Roma gets a role to prove her talent and she more than lives up to the expectations. Lal is in bit space or acting but fantastic. Sadiq is incredible in light sequences. Undoubtedly, this is his career-best performance.Shaari and new comer Jyothi performs natural. Other cast like Sharanya Sasi, Arun Narayan, Joe, Rajeev,Jayan, Sreeraman, Anil Murali,Meghanadhan are adequate.
Director Babu Janardhan has paid rigorous attention to the minute details in the recreation of moments in March 12,1993. Technically, Bombay March 12 is at top with Veteran Vipin Mohan's outstanding camerawork with Afsal Yousuf's melodious music. Edits by Vijai Shankar is appreciable.
"Bombay March 12" is a winner in unexpected ways for the whole crew. First-time director Babu Janardhan spears the content to a dashboard that dashes all over the mind of audience. Bombay March 12 ,is a film with a realistic theme but at the same time its retains the essence of real cinema.
Verdict: Good.

Okay, this may be yet another film on terrorism, which is perhaps the favorite subject for quite a number of filmmakers these days. But in all fairness, scenarist turned debutant director Babu Janardhanan'sBombay March 12 has tried to bring in a different pattern to the narrative here. But, how much does it work is the obvious question. At best, it does in parts. The story begins from the accounts of Sameer (Mammootty), who is questioned by the cops quite often, just for being a Muslim at times. He is a municipal sweeper married to Abida (Roma). Now the story starts to unfurl, not in a disciplined way, which is the highlight of the film as well. It's like stitching together several scenes happening at various junctures and unveiling the hidden mysteries in the process. Sameer was a Hindu priest Sanathana Bhat, hailing from Kasaragod, at some point of time. He goes to Pochampally in Andhra Pradesh and soon after certain unprecedented happenings, changes his life forever. Also in one of the many flashback scenes, there is the story of Shajahan (Unni Mukundan), who is Abida's brother. They belong to a poor Muslim family in Alappuzha and everyone in the family is happy when he gets a job in Mumbai. But the train journey turns out to be a crucial one in his life. Babu Janardhanan's script is a complex one and the film has been made with lots of honesty, which is evident on screen. But the problem seems to be that it has been dealt with in a more serious way than the storyline demands. As a result, the focus is limited to its pattern and the twists n turns that the story takes. Vipin Mohan's visuals are okay. Afsal Yusuf's tunes sound impressive. Mammootty looks good and has done his parts with conviction, but is the role a really challenging one for an actor of his level? There are too many loose ends in the storyline which make things unconvincing as well. Like the transformation of Bhat to Sameer and also his marriage to Abida, have been shown in a rather hasty manner, quite different from the pace that the film has been following all along. Roma looks quite different from her usual bubbly avatar and Unni Mukundan (who was seen in the Tamil version of Nandanam, called Seedan) makes an impressive debut in Malayalam. Sadique looks good as Abida's dad. Well, the film has a certain style which may be perfect for a certain section of viewers. If you can find a sync with its pace, the film can turn out to be a nice experience. Now, decide on your own if you belong to that category. |

The year is 1993, and the film rekindles memories of March 12, the day when bomb blasts rocked the metropolitan city of Mumbai that left many innocents dead. As the fire flames ravage the city, three individuals in three corners of the country realize that their lives have been changed forever; Abida (Roma) a young girl in Aleppey, her brother Shajahan (Unni Mukundan) who has just landed in Mumbai on a new job and Sadanand Bhatt (Mammootty), a temple pujari in Chennai.
The non-linear narrative takes up a zigzag pattern, moving liberally between timelines. Starting off at 1993, it soon moves into the next century and after a brief while rocks back and forth all over again. It takes a while for the entire plot to unfurl and the missing ends to tie up together.
Terrorism as a theme itself is fast becoming a cliché, but Bombay March 12 cleverly steers clear of the likely potholes on its way. The narration is kept as realistic as possible, and Sameer (Mammootty again) is shorn of any remnants of heroism. He is the victim all right, and as such remains helpless, weak and utterly dejected.
Perhaps what I liked most about the film was the final scene, where Babu doesn't let us walk away at leisure. It would be wrong to divulge any more of what happens at the very last scene, but the suggestion that you are being watched, isn't an easy one to live with, as Sameer realizes with a shudder.
Unfortunately, even as the script writer in Babu Janardhan excels, his directorial skills leave us wanting for more. There is no deliberate effort to minimize the complexity that gradually mounts, and only the very discerning viewer who remains engrossed in the film would find the sailing smooth.
This is probably one of the most delicate performances from Mammootty that we have seen in recent times. Delicate, since the actor is especially careful of stardom not seeping into his portrayal of Sameer and Sadananda Bhatt. Equally impressive is the performance of Unni Mukundan as Shajahan, and its commendable that the young actor stands confidently with Mammootty in many a scene, and delivers the goods with aplomb. And of course, there is Roma as well, who delivers a career best feat.
Vipin Mohan adopts the documentarian feel, and his camera gets busy capturing random spectacles of life. The musical score that has been composed by Afsal Yusuf does make an impression as well, though both the songs in the film could easily have been done away with.
Bombay March 12 is a film that needs to be applauded for taking a definitive stand on what it intends to discuss. There is no ambiguity here; rather a seething and raw bruise is laid bare to be seen, and to be judiciously examined.
