Finally after some weeks which registered just average collections, this was the one that gave strong positive signals to the box office. A couple of films that were released for this Vishu, made some great collections, with the summer holiday season. Leading the list, as expected is ¡Anna Thampi'.
1. ¡Annan Thampi' - It's ¡Annan Thampi¢ everywhere. The movie recorded the best of the first week collections ever registered for a Mollywood movie. Grossing around three crores in just eight days is not a mean thing for a Malayalam cinema. With the larger amounts it had fetched as channel rights and by selling out rights, the movie will move into profits even from its week two. The film already has become the biggest hit in Malayalam, according to the first week collections from its 75 centres. But the collections of this mass entertainer are slowly dwindling in centers where it was released in multiple centers. As of now, it remains in its no.1 slot.
2. ¡Innathe Chintha Vishayam' - This Sathyan movie is remaining steady in Box office especially in the bigger cities. The movie, even after the good publicity campaigns, is showing a drop in collections in lesser centers. Redundant script lines, mediocre music, less newspaper publicity and not so appealing direction are in the way of the film, becoming a big hit. Anyway, will manage to become a hit and many in the trade believe that the film will get a long run, with the marketing capabilities of Ashirwad cinemas and central pictures.
3. 'Mulla' - This Dileep movie has invited fresher interest in its fourth week and fared better than expected in the last weekend. Expected to become an average earner primarily due to its better collections in bigger cities and the loyal vacation audiences. All the songs of the movies set to music by Vidyasagar, are the chart toppers.
4. ¡Cycle¢- This Johnny Antony movie registers average collections, last week. Due to low print publicity, this movie, infact the first major hit of the year may find it difficult to reach the hundred days mark.
5. ¡Katha Parayumpol¢ -This Mammootty -Sreenivasan starrer now in its 125 days, still holds strong in the fifth position. The film registers average collections in metros.

The new Vishu offering from Mammootty 'Annan Thampi' is fetching the
best of the collections in its opening weekend. The movie has made a
gross collection of around two crores from its four day run in seventy
five theatres.

The movie which opened as a early as 3.40 am on the release day at
Thaanoor, one of the Mammootty strong holds, has been shown six times
daily in many centers at North Malabar. Even in the capital city the
movie made 33 shows in four days which yielded around 11 lakhs, the
best ever for a Malayalam film in half a week.

Even in lesser centers like Kondotty, Alappuzha, Manjery, Attingal,
Changanaseery and Vadakara, the movie has opened to the surprising
initials.

Expected to break all the collection records, set by their previous
venture `Rajamanikyam' , which collected around four crores from the
three metro cities itself, `Annan Thampi' is continuing its dream run
in double centers in almost every major cities. An open month ahead
with no real big releases should only ensure more business for its
investors, Marikkar Films, who never had cared to market their films
more than fifty days.

Mammootty to perform Bike stunts IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 19, 2008] Super star of Mollywood, Mammootty is planning to engage him with some bike stunts.
This time, Mammootty will perform some daredevil act playing a bike racer who also specialises in bike circus, for the new film by Johny Antony titled ‘Pattanathil Bhootham'. This will be a humorous fantasy thriller in the scripts of Sibi K Thomas- Udhay Krissna.
‘Pattanathil Bhootham' will tell the story of a bike circus specialist who zooms past men on the track and perform stunts for circus, but also gets special Extra Sensory Perceptions which make him to perform extra human acts. The movie planned as a complete entertainer will start by the month of June.
Meanwhile, Johny Antony's new release on theatres 'Cycle' is marching towards big glory as the film is rightly acknowledged as the first super hit of the year.

Mammootty for 'Dasavadharam' audio release IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, April 22, 2008] Mollywood Superstar Mammooty will share the stage with Asian action king Jackie Chan and veteran Bollywood star Amithabh Bachchan in the audio release function of Kollywood magnum opus 'Dasavadharam' .
Kamal Haasan the lead actor and producer of this film is planning to make this audio launch a mega event by roping in all the available biggies from the film field.
The function will also be attended by Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi. , Vijay, Asin, Hema Malini, Mallika Sheraawat, and the music director of the film Himesh Reshammiya.
‘Dasavadharam' which was in the making for the last one and a half years in a whooping budget of 60 crores , will feature Kamal in ten totally different characters.
Kamal will also announce the release date of the movie in the function.

It is a new opening record for any film in Kerala, and is the clear number one. At number two is Mohanlal's Innathe Chintavishayam, which had preferred to go for a limited release with only 42 stations. The film is a hit and in the long run will out gross the other film. 'Vande Matharam' on July 4 IndiaGlitz [Friday, April 18, 2008] Mammootty, who is presently enjoying the good opening of his 'Annan Thampi', will have his next release on July.
The actor's next movie to get released will be ‘Vande Matharam' which will hit the theatres on July 4. The same movie is made simultaneously in Tamil in the title 'Aaruvadai' which will also grace the theaters on the same day.
Even though ‘Vande Matharam’ will grace only on July, Mammukka's fans may sometimes see him again onscreen, on June itself.
According to the present schedules AMMA's multistarrer 'Twenty Twenty' is expected to grace the theatres on June 27.
Mammootty is in one of the pivotal roles in the movie which also features Lal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Dileep.

'Annan Thampi' in more than seventy centres IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, April 01, 2008] 'Annan Thampi' seems to the biggest bet among the Vishu releases that is doing brisk pre-release business.
The movie coming up from ace director Anwar Rasheed and scriptwriter Benny P Nayarambalam, is the film that is in big demand from the B centers that is planning to release the movie for this Vishu.
As per the present plans the makers are planning to release the movie in at least 70 centers for this Vishu, taking advantage of the removal of release restrictions by the exhibitors association.
The dubbing and rerecording of the movie is fast progressing at Lal Media, Ernakulam. The movie which features Mammootty in double roles will get into theatres on the Vishu day that is on April 14th.

‘Twenty Twenty’ will open in 118 centers IndiaGlitz [Friday, March 28, 2008] Association of Malayalam Movie Artiste's (AMMA)'s 'Twenty Twenty’ is gearing up to complete the shooting schedule by the second week of next month. The movie that will get into theatres by the first week of July will be the biggest multistarrer ever to be witnessed in Indian Movie history.
All the actors from Mollywood will appear as characters throughout the film and will be a part of the story.
The makers of the movie are planning to release the movie at 118 centers all across the state. Taking advantage of the relaxation in the number of release centers, reached last week between exhibitors association and the state government, this will be the record number in the case of release prints in the state.
The present record for the highest number of releasing theaters is by the magnum opus Rajini starrer 'Sivaji' which was released in a record number of 78 centers.

Vande Matharam Preview Print E-mail this Vande Matharam - A path breaker on the cards IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 27, 2008] Henry is one producer to whom entire Malayalam movie fans is indebted to. His only Malayalam movie 'Yavanika' that came out in the early eighties redefined the entire industry, which even gave way for the star status for one of the reigning superstars of present day Mollywood.
Henry later moved to produce big Tamil films like 'Kolangal,' 'Bharathi Kannamma,' 'Puthumai Pithan', 'Marumalarchi, ' 'Kallazhakan, ' 'Kannukku Kannaka’, under the banner of Pankaj Productions, which were all well received in Kollywood.
Twenty five years after ‘Yavanika' Henry is back to Malayalam to produce another, this time an investigative action thriller 'Vandemathram' with Mammootty in the lead. The film which is a bilingual, also made in Tamil in the title 'Aruvadai' (meaning harvest) have Kollywood star Arjun in an equally important role.
The film tells the story of a group of officers who are in an attempt to resist an international terrorist organization that tries to infiltrate the country. The central investigative agency RAW finds that the head of the terrorists group, in the name 'Malik' has crossed the borders to initiate a big deal and carry out deadly explosions in the southern part of the country. As not much is known about their actual operations, the southern zone command director of Intelligence bureau, Gopi Krishnan is deputed to find traces about the working plans of the organization and to prevent them from creating any damage. I B starts the operations by closing all the main entries to the southern states and by giving red alert to all the main centers about the approaching disaster.
With no much time left to grab the problem makers, Gopi Krishnan forms a core team with the support from Anwar Hussain who joins the group on deputation from the state police. With a tile ''Operation Malik'' they are on for a priced seizure, one that can save the entire nation from large turmoil and disaster.
Directed by T. Aravind, who had created the Tamil movies 'Aravindan' and ‘Akaram’ the script of the film is 'Vande Matharam'/'Aruvadai ' is by the producer Henry who says that the film will portray an innovative way of ending poverty. A K Santhosh scripts the dialogues for the Malayalam version. The creators are very excited about the project, which they find as quite different and a sure bet at the box office. The producer Henry has been trying to get Big B to make a guest appearance in the film as the Chief Minister. If the case with Big B doesn't materialize, he has plans to get a big time politician to don the role.
The film has an array of action sequences, the highlights being an 'on the air’ fight scenes in the casuarinas trees as 'the area is riddled with mines. This rare action sequences by stunt director Anal Arasu was shot on the islands off Sriharikkotta. The film has some futuristic sets as it also portray a situation at 2028 AD with metal fabricated security jail and high tech alert systems. The climax of the film is planned as a huge affair with at least 20,000 people costing a crore for its production.
The film will feature two heroines, one played by Sneha, as Nandhini who is a pilot and wife of Gopi Krishanan in the film. Arjun’s heroine is Sharadha Arya who is an ornithologist in the movie. Deepak J.D. makes his debut as the antagonist in this action packed entertainer with a message, while Jagadish and Jai Akash assists the big cops. The others in the cast include Riyaz Khan, Vijayakumar, Rajan P Dev, Rajkapoor and Mumtaz. The five songs in the movie, penned by Gireesh Puthencherry and Vayalar Sharatchandra Varma are set to music by Vidyasagar. The Tamil verses are written by Pa Vijay, Vairamuthu and Yugabarathi.
Extensively shot in super 35 cameras by cinematographers Vetri and Rajesh Yadav the movie was filmed at locations in Kochi, Chennai, Marthandam, Ilayankudy and Thengapattanam. Expected to get completed in a whooping budget of 14 cores,
