This year the filmi Onam in Mollywood will be a lackluster one with no participation of super star films. In fact, this is the first Onam season in the history of Mollywood, when the reigning superstars are not able to bring up at least a movie for the season.
Due to the coinciding of Ramzan days with the Onam season, majority of the big banners have shifted their big releases to Id day, which will come after three weeks from Onam. This leaves the theatres with either small banner films or films from lesser known heroes, for Onam.
The important ones that are expected to be on theatres for this Onam are Mohanlal’s K P Kumaran movie 'Aakasha Gopuram', which is a thorough offbeat venture, releasing next week. Jayaram's ‘Parthan Kanda Paralokam’, Vinoo Mohan's ‘Sultan’, Robin Thirumala's ‘Chembada’ and ‘Thavalam’ from Suresh Gopi are also in the final touch ups to get into theatres for Onam. Prithviraj will have two releases for this Onam that includes Madhupal's 'Thalappavu' and Renjith's 'Thirakkatha'.
Renjith's 'Thirrakkatha' is expected to be the dark horse of this Onam, as this is the only film from the lot which is planned with a refreshing story and commercially viable threads. Featuring Priyamani, Samvrutha and Anoop Menon, the movie will clash for the top slot with Vinoo Mohan's third film 'Sultan' which also carry good post production reports.
