No hard feelings, says Mammootty

Malayalam superstar Mammootty says he has no ill-feelings towards immigration officials at the JFK Airport in New York for delaying his clearance as they were just doing their job.

"It became news here because it was me and do you know there were 30 others whose clearance was delayed because the officials were checking their papers too. I had no issues at all and they treated me properly and I have nothing against them," said Mammootty, who returned to Kerala Saturday after a nearly month-long visit to the US.

The veteran actor's exit from the airport last month was delayed because his name in his passport appears as Mohammad Kutty Ismail.

"I said who I am and when I told them that my website reveals everything, they were convinced after they checked it," Mammootty told IANS.

He said he was in the US as part of a fund-raising campaign for his close friend, attorney Stanley Kalathara, who is contesting the election for the New York City Council from District 25, which includes Jackson Heights and Corona.

Mammootty added that his trip went off well.

"The final election there takes place in September and ahead of that there are other programmes and I chipped in my bit for my friend," he explained.

The superstar, who was away for a month, got busy with work as soon as he arrived here and is now dubbing for his latest film "Daddy Cool".

"My next film 'Patanthil Bhootham' is being released next month and will be followed by 'Loud Speaker' directed by Jayaraj," said Mammootty.

Mammootty and Jayaraj are teaming up for "Loud Speaker" after the blockbuster "Johnny Walker" released 17 years back.

Kerala Cafe with ten directors

Director-Producer Renjith has finalised the title for his mega venture with ten directors.

His fresh initiative will be titled as 'Kerala Café'- the name of the restaurant featured in the movie that will be the common thread in every stories in the movie.

The movie which will have ten different episodes of ten minutes each will be directed by ten prominent filmmakers including Laljose, Shaji Kailas, Uday Ananthan, Anjali Menon, Padmakumar, Shyamaprasad, B Unnikrishnan, Anwar Rasheed, Shakar Ramakrishnan and Revathy.

The movie will feature stories about travel, played on screen by prominent names like Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Prithviraj, Kalabhavan Mani and Nedumudi Venu. Planned to start by the first week of June, the first part will be shot by Shaji Kailas. Renjith who is the creative producer of the movie, is planning to get the Decalogue into theatres by September.

‘Daddy Cool' shifted to August 15

Mammootty's new movie 'Daddy Cool' which has recently completed its shooting will now, grace the theatres as an independent day release. The movie featuring Richa Palod as the heroine is directed by Ashiq Abu.

The immediate release of Mammootty will be 'Pattanathil Bhootham' which will be on theatres by the last week of June. This special effects fantasy movie told in the background of a circus troupe, directed by Johny Antony, will feature Mammootty in a double role. The movie with Kavya Madhavan as heroine will have music by Shaan Rehman who became popular with the album 'Coffee@MG Road'.

As per the present plans, Mammootty's Onam release will be 'Kutty Shranku', directed by Shaji N Karun. This off beat movie is expected to fetch another national acclaim for the actor. Also in the list of new releases from the actor is 'Vande Matharam' his bilingual with Tamil action star Arjun, which is in its final stages of production.

The megastar who is presently in America will return by the end of the week to complete his new movies in the pipe line, including Gireesh's 'Handsome', Jayaraj's 'Loudspeaker' and Renjith's 'Palery Maanikyam'.

the film will hit theatres on 25 june. the shoot took 75 days from 1st jan. because of the double role. it was done in di format. the post-production works involved lot of graphics and visual effects. that's why the delay. explaisn the director johny antony. the director says there is huge no. of queries from the audeince about the release date of the film.

anyway, the film is supposed to release in 110 theatres! the producer says ikka's co-opration was unique. often he worked till 4 am in the early morning and then came to shoot @ 9 am!! all those behind the project is all praise for ikka's hard work.

Sibi -Udya team up again

Sibi K Thomas - Uday Krishna was once branded as a scriptwriter specialized for Comic hits. And in the course of years they are created some of the highest grosser of Malluwood Twenty-Twenty and Super hits like Thuruppu Gualn, CID Moosa and Lion .

MUMBAI: Following BIG Pictures' launch at the Cannes Film Festival last year, the company is going back to Cannes this year with a portfolio of 18 films.

The tent pole film of the company this year will be the Hrithik Roshan – Barbara Mori starrer Kites. The movie also stars Kangana Ranuat, Nick Brown and Kabir Bedi and has been produced by Rakesh Roshan's Filmkraft Productions and directed by Anurag Basu.

Additionally, BIG Pictures' will also be taking various regional language films like Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada to the market.

Some of these films are: Malayalam director Shaji N. ‘Pazhassi Raja’ shifted to Ramzan

Mammootty's magnum opus historical 'Pazhassi Raja' will once again shift its original release dates.

The movie will now get into theatres only by the Ramzan season. The movie which was earlier planned for August 15 was rescheduled as Mammootty's two releases 'Pattanathil Bhootham' and 'Daddy Cool' will release only in the months of June and July.

Since 'Pazhassi Raja' is a big budgeted movie, the makers feel that it needs at least two months gap from Mammootty's earlier releases, to receive a great opening.

'Pazhassi Raja' directed by Hariharan in the scripts of M T Vasudevan Nair, is produced and distributed by Gokulam Gopalam in the banner of Gokulam films.

When Mammootty became a suspect in New York

Though
the special check at New York's John Fitzgerald Kennedy airport was a
clear case of racial profiling, award-winning Malayalam superstar
Mammootty does not take it personally. Mammootty
had taken a British Airways flight on April 29 to attend a series of
fundraising events for his friend, attorney Stanley Kalathara, who is
contesting the election for the New York City Council from District 25,
which includes Jackson Heights and Corona.At
JFK airport, immigration officials delayed Mammootty's exit for almost
two hours. The reason? Mammootty's real name, which appears in his
passport as Muhammad Kutty Ismail.When the immigration official saw the last name Ismail, he sent the actor to a separate room for questioning. Mammootty has visited the US 22 times, once after the 9/11 attacks. But this was the first time he was questioned." Every
country has its laws and systems. We too have it. We should obey those
laws. I did not feel discriminated or harrassed when I was questioned
at the airport," he told rediff India Abroad."This
is not something that happened to me alone. So there is no point taking
it seriously," he added. Even US Senator Edward Kennedy has been
stopped at airports, the star pointed out. Kennedy
was stopped and questioned at airports five times in March 2004 because
his name appeared on the Bush government's secret 'no-fly' list. One
was Boston, Massachusetts, a state he has represented in the US Senate
for over 40 years.Kalathara,
upset over the delay, informed the Indian consulate. But before
consular officials could step in, Mammootty asked the New York
immigration officials to check his Web site, which includes information
and photographs of the more than 300 films he has acted in."Once a person is marked for questioning, it seems they need confirmation from their Washington office (before releasing them).
The officials themselves forwarded details from the Web site to the
Washington office and his name was immediately cleared," Kalathara said."It
was a routine thing. Mammootty did not take it seriously. The official
apologised profusely and even accompanied him outside," Kalathara said.Whatever the actor felt, it became another instance of profiling of people with Muslim names. Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan [Images] suffered a similar experience in Canada [Images] because his last name appeared to be Muslim -- although he is a Hindu.Immediately
after 9/11, Malayalam actress Samyukta Verma and her team were detained for some time because during their flight into New York one of her
associates pointed out high-rise buildings in the city. A fellow
traveller, who felt threatened, alerted the pilot. Three UA Air Force
fighter jets escorted Verma's flight to JFK and the incident made news
in India and the US.

Pazhassi Raja, a service to India's freedom fighters

The knowledge of the freedom struggle to most Indians most often starts only with the Sepoy Mutiny. The Vellore Mutiny and the struggle of men like Puliyur Devar in the early 1800s are reduced to vague memories, not being chronicled in popular history texts.

One such a patriot, who launched a war against the British even prior to the 1857 revolt, was the Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Padinjare Kovilakom. Stiffly opposing the revenue policies of the East India Company, he made the then government thaw under his pressure and alters the revenue laws and asks for truce, as early as 1796. The British government returned to its irresponsible ways soon, and the Raja went into hiding with his wife and attendant, later being killed in 1805.

This valiant story of one of our earliest patriots is all set to be revived in public memory. And the credit for this goes to award-winning writer M T Vasudevan Nair, director Hariharan. The duo has teamed up to do a film on 'Pazhassi Raja'. The film features Mega Star Mammootty in the lead role, and in a bid to make the film available to the entire country, the film is expected to be released in five languages, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and English. Sarath Kumar makes his debut in Malayalam with this film, playing Edachena Kunkan, the best friend of 'Pazhassi Raja'. The audio of the film was launched recently, with Illayaraja being the music composer.

Mammootty questioned at US

Though the news was a front page item, it came a little late than usual, to take the place of a small column in the dailies. Mollywood Super Star Mammootty when taking a trip to US was detained for two hours and questioned by officials at the JFK International Airport.

The incident which happened on April 29, on his arrival to campaign for his friend contesting for the corporation elections, was all for his Muslim name in his passport.

The actor was taken for questioning, immediately after his official name ''Muhammad Ismail'' popped up on the immigration screens. The actor was allowed to leave only after the authorities from Indian Consulate explained about him. The sources there explains that these type of happenings occur occasionally as this particular name is blacklisted in US for some mysterious security reasons.

MT, Mammoty to bring alive Pazhassi Raja on screen

History books tell you the first freedom struggle was in 1857. However, a fierce a new Malayalam film will buttress the argument that

Kerala witnessed the freedom struggle as early as 1805, when Pazhassi Raja, after whom the film is named, took on the British. Called the Lion of Kerala, Pazhassi Raja had waged a guerrilla war against the invaders from the intriguing terrain of Wayanad.

Starring Malayalam superstar Mammootty, Pazhassi Raja' has M T Vasudevan Nair, the Jnanpith award-winning Malayalam writer, handling the script and background research. Not many outside Kerala may know much of Pazhassi Raja, the Malabar ruler who led a band of tribals in the uprising. However, according to MT's research, the British buried all details of the uprising, fearing the malaise' could spread to other natives.'

The British wrote off the entire confrontation, which began in 1793 and lasted until 1805, as a minor revolt'. "However, our research showed that Pazhassi did indeed take on the British empire," said Gokulam Gopalan, producer of the film. The film appears to bank heavily on Malabar Manual' by British author William Logan, who identified Pazhassi Raja as the earliest freedom fighter.

Vasudevan Nair also did his own research. "He was ready with the script when we approached him," said Gopalan. Both the literati and the layman have heard of the guerrilla tactics of the local chiefs armed with nothing more than bows, arrows, swords, spears and just else available in the forest which could be converted into arms."

The film is likely to generate plenty of debate and interest, especially since it has Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty as the sound editor and Ilayaraja as the music director. A number of British actors, including Peter Handley Evans and Harry Key have been roped in.

10 directors to direct a film!

The pathbreaking writer and director Ranjith is making a new concept. His Capital Theatres is going to make a film, directed by 10 directors!

Actually each of them is making a short film in 12 to 15 minutes duration, with a central theme running through all the short films.

Says Ranjith: "Travel is going to be the central theme of the film. Travel in many forms, it could have happened or about to happen or a travel that got cancelled. I want to give something new to our audiences who are thirsting for a change."

Rasool Pookutty joins pazhassiraja

The Oscar winning sound specialist Rasool Pookutty has joined the team of Mammootty- Hariharan- M.T Vasudevan Nair classic in the making Pazhassi Raja. The big budget Rs 25 crore film, originally being made in Malayalam will have a version in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

On Wednesday (April 29) the producers of the film Sree Gokulam Gopalan and his son Praveen held a press meet at Chennai's Green Park Hotel to announce that Rasool Pookutty will be providing sound for this prestigious film.

Rasool Pookutty who is busy with two big Bollywood and one Hollywood film was initially reluctant to take up another assignment, as his hands were full. But it was Mammootty who convinced him to take up the project and do what best he can do for the project in limited time.

Said Resul: " For me it is an emotional moment to be part of a M.T Vasudevan Nair-Hariharan- Mammootty project. Right from my school days in Kollam I have been seeing their films and loved Vadakkan Veeragatha. Hariharan showed me some rushes of Pazhassi Raja, which impressed me and looked well crafted, that made me take up the assignment."

Though details were not given on how they could incorporate new sounds into a film which has not been shot in Sync Sound (SS), a source close to the director says: "We will be recreating the battle scenes in Madikkeri in Coorg, and Rasool has promised to incorporate all the necessary sound in SS format. The important battle scenes in the film will now be recreated using Rasool's technical expertise."

Meanwhile the gripping story of the 18th century warrior prince of Malabar Pazhassi Raja.the first real freedom fighter in India who resisted the British rule is slowly but surely becoming an epic movie, the biggest ever project in the history of Malayalam films with a budget of Rs 25 crore.

The main actors in the film are Mammootty, Sarath Kumar, Suman, Thilakan, Jagathy, Manoj.K Jayan, Devan, Kaniha, Padmapriya and a few British actors. The film is being shot by cameraman Ramanath Shetty who did Kamal Hassan's Virumandi, stunt scenes by Ravi Dewan who did Jodha Akbar, editing by the 'master' Sreekar Prasad, art direction by T.Muthuraj and music by Ilayaraja. Now after Rasool Pookutty has joined the project, one can say it has an international look about it.

The film which was originally planned to be released as the big summer 2009 extravaganza, is now likely to release on October 2, as Gandhijayanthi- Ramzan release. Rasool will have to redo the sound, and after that there is going to be a lot of graphics and special effects that have to be incorporated into the film.

All this is sure to take some time. However one thing is sure Pazhassi Raja will be an epic classic sugar coated with entertainment ingredients. It cannot get bigger than this!

ebbis joseph, script writer of some of mammootty's ever-popular super hits like new delhi, nayar sab, nirakkoottu together with mammootty thought of bringing out some of their old classics with DTS -esp New Delhi & Nayar Saab. they have now suggested the issue to Jubilee productions Joy, the producer - he's also considering about this.

Mammootty will wind up the shoot of Daddy Cool in chennai and then leave for US with family for a holiday. he will be the guest of one advocate stanley of Chembu, his native place. in between some song bits of daddy cool may be shot in hongkong.

on return, Mammootty will join the film Loudspeaker directed by Jayaraj. the location will be either Kottayam or Tvm. right now Jayaraj is on a London trip. the details will be finalised once Jayaraj is back.

the video of Mammootty classic KANAMARAYATHU is out. its release was a long awaited one. the iv sasi-padmarajan film was a craze amongst the audience esp the youth when it was released in 1984. female audience was rushing to lap up ROYICHAN as their hero. the relation between M and sobhana was narrated great. rahman-sobhana team was another factor.

the movie which never appeared in tv. its script was serilasied in Nana film weekly. now Harmony Videos borught out the vcd @ rs 50.

Resul Pookutty signs up for 'Pazhassi Raja'

After winning an Oscar for Danny Boyle's Mumbai-based underdog drama "Slumdog Millionaire", Kerala-born sound maestro Resul Pookutty is coming full circle, as he will design sound for his first Malayalam movie "Pazhaasi Raja".

"Resul is doing 'Pazhassi Raja', which will be his first film in his mother tongue as well as the first in south India. He will be doing the post-sound work for the film and is very excited about the project as it is an amazing film. It is also one of the very big-budget films in Malayalam cinema," Pookutty's manager Baiju told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The 39-year-old started his career in Bollywood in 1995 with Rajat Kapur's "Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One" that never saw the light of day. He then went on to design sounds for films like "Black" (2005), "Traffic Signal" (2007), "Saawariya" (2007) and "Ghajini" (2008) before bagging an Oscar for "Slumdog Millionaire".

Pookutty has his reasons for taking up the regional project.

"Resul took up the project because Pazhassi Raja is a very well known figure down south and has a history like that of Mangal Pandey, as both were martyrs in our struggle against the British. He really respects the freedom fighters and has deep feelings for the country," Baiju said.

Known as the 'Lion of Kerala', Pazhassi Raja was the ruler of the kingdom of Kottayam in northern Kerala. He is chronicled as one of the first freedom fighters in the country. He achieved the title 'Veera' when he died fighting the British occupation in a guerrilla war Nov 30, 1805.

Directed by Hariharan, the biopic is a magnum opus historical with screenplay written by renowned writer and poet M.T. Vasudevan Nair and music by Ilaiyaraaja.

A busy May in cards

After a busy session of continuous releases in the month of April, the month of May will also witness a number of fresh movies in Mollywood. The very first day of the month will have Mukesh – Jaysuriya - Kalabhavan Mani starrer 'Currency' directed by Swathy Bhaskar on theatres.

Super star Mammootty will have the second release of the year in 'Pattanathil Bhootham', directed by Johny Antony, which is now planned to be on movie halls by the second week of May.

The other important releases of the month will be Jayasuriya – Mujesh teaming up for 'Doctor Patient', 'Passenger' featuring 'Sreenivasan and Dileep and 'Kancheepurathe Kalyanam' with Suresh Gopi and Mukesh. Two other smaller films like 'Velathooval' and 'Kausthubham' featuring new comers may also hit the screens by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the April releases had a good success rate with '2 Harihar Nagar' mincing money in tons and establishing itself as the first super hit of the year. Sathyan's new movie 'Bhagayadevatha' is also opined as a good entertainer, which will also end up as a hit.
Suresh Gopi's movie with director B Unnikrishnan 'IG' also had a safe run in April, which will help the movie to end up in the safer side. Mohanlal's 'Sagar Alias Jackey' does made a wonder collection in the first few weeks, which may help the producer to rake in the capital spend on it. The April films that doesn't made a mark includes Fazil's 'Moz And Cat' and Nemom Pushparaj's 'Banaras'. The plight of these two films in the Box Office will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Resul Pookutty debuts in Malayalam

Malayalam superstar Mammootty's biopic magnum opus historical film Pazhassi Raja,
directed by ace director Hariharan and scripted by literary giant M.T.
Vasudevan Nair, will mark the Malayalam debut of Oscar award winning
sound engineer Resul Pookutty as a sound mixer.

Resul Pookutty, who won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for Slumdog Millionaire, voluntarily opted to work for the film, after watching Pazhassi Raja's post production work in Chennai. Resul is said to have been highly impressed by the film.

To be simultaneously released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi with the same title, Pazhassi Raja is
scheduled to grace theatres on August 15. The movie, according to the
makers, will be the biggest release ever in the history of Malayalam
cinema with more than 200 prints.

Mammootty plays the title role of legendary ruler and warrior Kerala
Varma Pazhassi Raja, known to be the first freedom fighter of India,
who took on the British in the forests of Malabar in the 18th century.
The movie showcases his heroic fights against the British in the
jungles of Wayanad during the 1790s.

Popular Tamil-Telugu actor Suman plays the villain, Pazhaiveetan
Chandu and Tamil actor Sarathkumar plays Edachena Kunkan, the chief
lieutenant of Pazhassi Raja. This is Sarathkumar' s first appearance in
Malayalam. Thilakan dons the role of king Kurubranaad, who revolted and
plotted against Pazhassi Raja. Jagathy Sreekumar dons the role of
Kannara Menon, an employee of the British Government. Padmapriya and
Kanihaa (also spelt Kanika) are the heroines.

Produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Gokulam Films, Pazhassi Raja is
made with the biggest-ever budget for a Malayalam movie, rumoured to be
more than Rs. 20 crores. Manoj K. Jayan, Peter Handley Evans and Harry
Key play pivotal roles in the film which has music by maestro Ilayaraja
and songs penned by poet O.N.V. Kurup.

There is no one to match Mammootty. He will always be awesome in everything he does, everything he speaks since he is sincere to his thoughts, words, & actions. ‘Bhootham’ for May 14

Mammootty's new movie 'Pattanathil Bhootham' will now grace the theatres by the 14th of May. Directed by Johny Antony, the movie was earlier planned to hit the theaters by the 30th of April.

Due to heavy graphics and animation works, the producers have to reschedule the release dates for quite some time. Kavya Madhavan in one of her last outing to film before her marriage had completed the heroine act of the movie. In fact, Kavya is for the first time acting opposite the megastar as the heroine.

Mammootty will be appearing in a double role in this hilarious thriller.

MACTA march to Mammootty's location

MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association) members, headed by its general secretary Baiju Kottarakkara who had held a march to the location of Dileep's movie 'Bodyguard' at Varikkassery Mana in Ottapalam on Saturday, again made similar protest by barging into the location of Mammootty's 'Daddy Cool' in Muhamma on Sunday. The protesters which included AITUC members also were resisted by the a few police man initially, but when Mammootty's supporters and DYFI activists tried to protect the star, a tense atmosphere remained in the location for many hours. The shooting was disrupted for some time in Muhamma.

The march was organised to by a fraction of MACTA to protest the alleged efforts to deny job to MACTA Federation members, being made under the leadership of Mammootty and Dileep. The ten demands of the protesters include ending the denial of job to technicians at the insistence of superstars and wage hike for workers.

The association of Mammootty's fans accused MACTA for making baseless allegations against the megastar. Reports are that fan association members are planning to retaliate by laying siege on the house of MACTA Federation president, director Vinayan. The unit of 'Bodyguard' has also made a written complaint to police, against Baiju Kottarakkara and other 30 members who created much loss to the production. Meanwhile, the MACTA Federation announced that they were suspending the protest till April 23, as actor Suresh Gopi has taken an initiative to hold a meeting with all concerned outfits of film field to end the problems plaguing the Malayalam industry.
