Megastar Mammootty who is enjoying the grand success of his historical 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja' will be seen soon as another historical character of Marthanda Varma.
The rumours are that a Chennai based producer has already approached Mammootty to do a bilingual, based on the life of heroic ruler of Travancore 'Marthanda Varma'. Grapevines are that the producer is ready with a forty crore budget for an epic scale recreation and that Mammooty has instantly agreed to be in the movie which may be realised by 2012.

Two films from Malayalam were selected to the Indian Panorama section that is to be shown at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) - 2009 to be held in Goa next week.
The films selected include two Mammootty films, 'kutty Srank' by Shaji N karun and 'Pazhassi Raja' by Hariharan, children's film ' Keshu' directed by santhosh Sivan.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty was overjoyed as two of his films made it to the Indian Panorama section also he has been invited by the organizers of IFFI 2009, to be the Chief Guest at the closing Ceremony function of this year's on December first week. He was more thrilled to have his recent release 'Pazassi Raja' which invited awesome responses and turning out be Mega blockbuster in theatres, to get into the panorama.

Pazhassi Crosses 10 crores 26 days...!!!
'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja' is still continuing with its surprise collections, even after a month of its release in Kerala. The movie has already accumulated a ten crores from its 26 day run, which is the highest ever collection for a movie in Malayalam in these number of days. In the capital city itself it has crossed a 75 lakhs in 26 days.
Meanwhile, the Tamil version of the movie will get released by the 20th of this month. The makers are planning to go for a release with 100 prints. With Tamil star Sarath Kumar in the company of Mammootty, who is a known star in Kollywood, 'Pazhassi Raja' is expected to make decent collections. Gokulam Films will have the Telugu version of the movie released by the mid of December.

Pazhassi Raja postponed!
The Malayalam super hit epic Pazhassi Raja’s Tamil version featuring Mammootty and Sarath Kumar and directed by Hariharan, was to release this Friday (Nov 13), but has now been postponed!
Due to heavy rains in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu the Tamil Version of Gokulam Gopalan produced Pazhassi Raja is postponed to next Friday (Nov 20), depending on the weather.
The buzz on those who saw the Tamil version is very good and most of the areas has been sold out.

Pazhassi outsells Ghajini?
Alright, here goes. There is a Malayalam movie that was made on a princely budget of Rs 32 crores, collected a whopping 1.5 crore in domestic collections on the first day, and have recovered its entire production costs and a whopping profit in digital rights unheard of in Indian cinema since its release on October 16, 2009, quietly. A revolution that commenced in God’s own country is slowly gathering gravitas in a way that is going to surprise the pants out of the self – styled trade pundits who tend to look further down south of the Vindhyas with calculated disdain. Pazhassi Raja, the multilingual biopic based on the life and times of Keralavarma Pazahassi Raja, directed by Hariharan and scripted by the legendary MT Vasudevan Nair would have to be the most prestigious and the costliest movie ever mounted on the silver screen from God’s own country. Shackled and restricted, as with any other regional movie industry, to a market base that is limited to its language, the Malayalam movie industry has been stretching its limits to accommodate the rising costs of production and the returns. Its only saving grace that has been the rising demand and outflow of technical talent to other regional movie making projects and the remake rights of its commercial releases to mainly Bollywood.There has also been a rising trend in the sale of digital rights of the movies to TV and the web, which has also slowly started making tidy profits for the production houses.
And it is in this existing scenario that this officially unconfirmed report of the season’s biggest commercial hit and and an equally critically acclaimed movie has shot into prominence for a reason far removed than its already deserving collaborations on its technical front. Pazhassi Raja has been in the news for its one-of-a-kind collaboration of the country’s best talent and the local ones in a project with a budget unheard of in Malayalam movie production. The team of MT Vasudevan Nair, Hariharan,Ilaiyaraja, Resool Pookkuttya and Bharath Mammooty can only mean a phenomenal movie that will shake the foundations of Malayalam cinema.
And the domestic box – office has never rejoiced like it has in its first week collection which ran into Rs.1.5 crores on the initial day of its release from theaters in Kerala alone, which is a record. Peanuts, if you consider the Big National picture, but a windfall when Kerala is concerned.
Asianet picked up its Malayalam satellite rights for a whopping Rs. 2.6 Crore. But what comes next is what sends shivers down our timbers. According to our sources, the international digital rights has been sold to HBO for a whopping Rs.60 crore.
Aamir Khan’s Ghajini till now held the highest payout with Rs 22 crore, which would make Pazhassi Raja THE HIGHEST GROSSER IN TERMS OF OVERSEAS DIGITAL RIGHTS IN INDIAN CINEMA.

Pazhassi Raja (Tamil) trimmed!
Pazhassi Raja in Malayalam has turned out to be a super hit in Kerala and is reported to have collected more revenue in its first three weeks than the all time super hit Twenty:20 released in 2008.
[black]Meanwhile the Tamil version of the film has been trimmed by 30 minutes and cut down from the original 3 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours and 45 minutes, making it even more slicker and racy.

What’s between Bharath and Mammootty?
Bharath's latest release 'Kanden Kadhali' is enjoying a good reception for all type of audience. Bharath is having his 'Thambiku Indha Ooru' which is set for Pongal release and 'Thiruthani' in his kitty now.
Meanwhile as we had it earlier the actor is tied up with another worthwhile project along with Malayalam Superstar Mammootty. This untitled project will be a full length action film which is planned to be directed by 'Sathyam' fame Rajasekar. Reliable sources had it that Bharath will be donning the role of a college student, while Mammootty will do the role of a lecturer.
Bharath will pair with Sunaina for the first time in 'Thiruthani' whereas in Badri's 'Thambikku Indha Ooru' is romancing Sana Khan for. Meanwhile, Mammootty is as of now tied-up with Tamil projects like 'Aruvadai' and 'Pazhani Raja' besides this one.

Kanika and Pazhassi –the best
'Pazhassi Raja' was selected as the best movie of the year in the Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, (AMMA) awards which was announced this Sunday. While Mohanlal was selected as the best actor for his meticulous portrayal of the lead character in 'Bhramaram', Kanika was selected as the best actress for her roles in 'Bhagyadevatha' and 'Pazhassi Raja'. Adoor Gopalakrishnan was named for his contribution to Malayalam cinema.
The other awards that went to 'Pazhassi Raja' includes that for Hariharan (Best direction) MT Vasudevan Nair (Best Screenplay), Resul Pookutty, Amritha Preetham (Best Sound), Illayaraja (best music) and Padmapriya (Special award).
The others in the award list includes Manoj K Jayan, Meera Nandhan, Jagathy Sreekumar, K P A C Lalitha, Sasikumar, Jagadeesh, Baby Nivedhitha, Mohan Sithara, Vayalar Sharath, Ajayan Vincent, Rajesh Jayaraman, Yaseer Sali and Vimmy Mariyam. While '2 Harihar Nagar' was selected as the most popular film of the year, 'Passenger' was named as the best movie made with a social commitment. The awards will be given away in a grand function at the Sharjah Cricket stadium on the sixth of this month.

malayalam movie magazine 'velli nakshatharam' is giving reduced collection reports of pazhassiraja
pazhassiraja tamil version will release in tamilnadu on Nov 13th
Pazhassiraja grosses 13.5 crores in just 14 days with a share around 7 crores
As per the info e from reliable sources is that PazhassiRaja has made an all kerala Gross of around 13.5 crores in 2 weeks. This gives the distributor a share of approx 7 crores due to 50% reduction in ent.tax.
Gokulam expecting that i the 3rd week PR will gross another approx 3 crore which means by 3 weeks PR will have a GROSS colection of nearly 17 crores which is historic.
They will soon come up with the BO info and next week's MTIMES will carry it!

Mammootty teams up again with an established name in the world of parallel cinema.
Mammootty,who celebrates the historical victory of his latest film Pazzasiraja is going to do another quality fare with T V Chandran, who is most known for his art-house films.He had won several major national and state awards for most of his works and were also screened at major international festivals.Mammooty won the national award for his role in Ponthan Mada directed by T.V Chandran in 1993.The shooting of T.V. Chandran's Mammootty film will begin early in 2010.

Asked to brief on Mammootty's Double role, he says, "Mammootty plays as a CBI officer who comes from Delhi to re-investigate a murder case which had occurred in the mid of the last century. At the same time he appears as a Muslim landlord lived in the same period and is connected with crime.. He is sharp, aggressive and very much a person who suits the job he is doing. The character would be no doubt liked by all admirers of Mammootty, and he has been doing the role with the ease which he has always displayed while doing such roles".
The movie is based on a short story by T P Rajeevan which was published in Mathrbumi weekly in the mid of last century. Director himself scripting for the movie and produced by A V Anoop and Maha Subair under the banner of Varnachithra and Varnachithra itself will be releasing the movie on november 27. Kerala Café has ten directors at the helm, each of them making a film of their own on a single theme called yathra or journey.
Kerala Café, for your info, is in fact a modest tea stall at a railway station and certain characters from each of the films are somehow connected to it. It's a nice concept, perhaps inspired by movies like Paris, je t'aime for instance, but the best thing about it is that the directors have held it together with some excellent ones and some okay efforts.
Among the ten films, it is perhaps Anjali Menon's Happy Journey that stands out with its intelligent use of the allotted time. A heartening, simple tale has been well told by the director. The film is set inside a bus with an insurance surveyor (Jagathy Sreekumar) with a roving eye, trying to make advances on a pretty girl (Nithya Menon) sitting next to him. But she turns out to be really smart for the man to handle.

Director Anwar Rasheed's Bridge talks about two parallel tracks, the first one involving a young boy and his pet kitten. The other story has a son (Salim Kumar), who lives in poor surroundings, deciding to leave his ailing mother (Shanthadevi) in the street. With amazing technical brilliance, the director takes things to an altogether different level and stamps his presence quite effectively.
Makal, directed by Revathy, is about the flesh trade which is happening under the guise of adoption. Sona Nair and Sreenath have done the main roles. Some of its situations are predictable, yes, but it has its moments and that hugely works to the film's advantage.
Puram Kazhchakal, directed by Lal Jose, is based on C V Sreeraman's book and narrates a bus journey where people of different mindsets, purpose and nature go along for a while. Mammootty and Sreenivasan play the main characters in it. Mammootty looks quite subtle and different from his normal self and as it happens, surprises everyone with the final shot. We start a journey back from then on in our own minds and that is exactly what the film intends to convey.
The main attraction about director Uday Ananthan's Mrityunjayam could be its genre, horror. It has some mystery surrounding an old illam and despite the warnings of the tirumeni (Thilakan), a young journalist (Fahadh Faasil) comes there for an investigative story. Anoop Menon, Meera Nandan and Rima Kallingal are also part of the proceedings. There are some loose ends but here is a film that looks different from the rest and catches the viewers' attention quite easily.
We profile Anjali Menon
Nostalgia, directed by M.Padmakumar and based on R Venugopal's poem Nattuvazhikal, zooms in on a typical NRI. Johny (Dileep) is all nostalgic about his motherland when he is in Dubai but once he reaches Kerala, he is an altogether different man, cribbing for virtually everything that comes his way and that sadly includes his parents as well. Navya Nair plays his wife. One gets the feeling that the director has gone for a conventional format to narrate the story here, without going for some cinematic experiments.
Debutant director Shankar Ramakrishnan' s Island Express looks again at the real-life Perumon tragedy involving the train that happened in 1988, but still remains as a scar in the minds of every Malayali. Prithviraj, Jayasurya,Rahman, Maniyanpillai Raju and Sukumari include the film's cast. The story meanders along in some strange ways initially but the director manages to get his act together towards the end.
Shaji Kailas' Lalitham Hiranmayam is about the angst of a married man played by Suresh Gopi, who falls in love with another girl. Jyothirmayee does the role of his wife while Dhanya Mary is the other woman in question. This is a simple tale, narrated with a lot of style, in true Shaji Kailas style.
Shyamaprasad' s Off Season has been made to be seen on a lighter vein and has Suraj Venjarammood in the lead, as a tourist guide in Kovalam. He reminisces about the tryst with a Portuguese couple, who had not much money with them to spend during a vacation. The film gives a lot of promise in the beginning, but things are not happening in a great way, from then on.
B Unnikrishnan' s Aviramam is about a couple, played by Siddique and Swetha Menon, who loves each other so dearly. But their lives take a drastic turn after recession hits the existence of his IT Company pretty badly. Though it has been made pretty well, the problem with the story is that it looks pretentious at times.
With a motley mix of stories, Kerala Café manages to stitch them together as an absorbing watch. There are shortcomings but here is one experiment done with some honesty, which is to be seen there on the screen. Among the highlights of the film are its technical brilliance, music quality and not to forget, the pace that never really allows the viewer to take their attention anywhere else. If there is a price to be given for the best short film of the lot, Anjali Menon´s Happy Journey is undoubtedly the pick of the lot followed by Anwar Rasheed's Bridge
The performances too help the film immensely with some sincere acting from the veterans in the business and some of the young faces, like the pretty Nithya Menon, Fahadh Faasil and Rima Kallingal. Watch out for some spectacular moments with Salim Kumar and Shanthadevi in Bridge, Jagathy Sreekumar in Happy Journey, Mammootty and Sreenivasan in Puram Kazhchakal, Jyothirmayee in Lalitham Hiranmayam, Sona Nair in Makal and Suraj Venjarammood in Off Season among others.
Get some popcorn and head straight for Kerala Café, which incidentally has been conceived and anchored by director Ranjith. It is a new experiment and not an easy one to execute as well. But those involved in its making have done a nice job and needs a pat on their back for just that. Go for it and you may not regret the idea for sure.

Anjel John falls behind pazhassi...
The failure of Angel John at the Kerala Box-Office has sent shock waves across the Malayalam film industry.
No Mohanlal film in recent times has taken such a poor opening. The
film on its second day fell flat, and in some smaller stations was
"Hold Over" (trade term for not getting the minimum required gross
collection)!
At Kottayam Anand on the fifth day for Monday evening show there were
hardly 56 audiences in a theatre with a capacity of over 1000 seats.
The trouble was that people rejected the film as the fantasy story did
not register with the audiences.
No Mohanlal film in recent times has taken such a poor opening. The
film on its second day fell flat, and in some smaller stations was
"Hold Over" (trade term for not getting the minimum required gross
collection)!
At Kottayam Anand on the fifth day for Monday evening show there were

With the arrival of a few big films like 'Pazhassi Raja' and 'Angel John' the box office list has little changes, Mammootty starrer 'Pazhassi Raj' is the front runner among the new releases, even though 'Robinhood'& Angel John is also running too close for the top slot. The top five Malayalam films of the weekend are:
1.Mammootty - Pazhassi Raja1.'Pazhassi Raja': Mammootty's new offering historical epic is a winner in all terms. Mammootty has got another massive hit after last years 'Annan Thampi'& Katha Parayumbol. The film has amassed more than 8.85crores from its Nine days run and is still the favorite among the masses who schedule the film for repeat viewing. The songs of the film have also become a hit. The film has collected more than one crores from the three main centres of the state.It also made a record Satellite rights 2.6 crore which is biggest in the history of malayalam cinema.

2. 'AngelJohn': Mohanlal's Action Fun ride directed by Jayasury has mixed responses and that is only reason the film is not at the top as is the case of openings of the other Lal films. If marketed well the film may prove to become a winner.
3.Prithvi Raj-Robinhood3.'Robinhood': Prithvi Raj's Ramzan movie is the favorite which out numbered the other Malayalam films to capture the number three slot. The film is registering 50 percent in all the major centres of the state after the arrival of Biggies like Pazhassi Raja and Angel John.
4.Mammootty - Loud speaker4.'Loud Speaker': Mammootty's Ramzan flick just manages to be in the list. But will prove a profit maker for the distributors for its good opening and low budget. And within a week the film celebrate fifty days in major centers .

Vasudevan Nair classic film, âPazhassi Rajaâ has grossed near 12.5 lakhs in three days by four big screen from capital city of kerala. Latest Buzz say's that film approved a good word of mouth and chance to turn around a historical blockbuster. pazhassiraja creates record in 1st day collection at trivandrum
PR has grossed around 3.5 lks in the first day at the combined TVM city release theatres. Its from people associated with the theatres
Due to reduction of ent. tax the NET share will be around 3 lks to be divided between the theatre & distributor. remember that this is astonishing openeing day gross because T20 managed around the same with only increased ticket rates!
