Director Ranjith said today that Malayalam cinema is like an animal tied to a peg and which helplessly revolves around it.
The director was interacting with members of the media at the Kannur Press Club.
He said that his latest film 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' that has opened to rave reviews, is an attempt to create something different while remaining a part of mainstream cinema.
'Done and redone themes are keeping the audience away from the theatres. I have made 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' with the intention of interacting with the general audience in a fresh way without insulting their intelligence,' Ranjith added.
'Other language films see success in the state, not merely on account of their big budget and technical backup. They are successful because they find out stories and characters that we do not get to see, from among us,' the director said.
