Kamal to remake A Wednesday?

Kamal Haasan is highly impressed with UTV's A Wednesday
This is one rumour that every serious fan of cinema would want to come true as soon as possible. What rumour? That Kamal Haasan, highly impressed with UTV's A Wednesday made with legendary Bollywood actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher, is considering remaking it in Tamil! The excitement does not stop there the thespian also plans to reprise the part played by Naseeruddin and make Malayalam superstar Mammootty play Anupam Kher's part!

UTV's A Wednesday, which summarizes a series of sensational events taking place on a Wednesday in the life of a police commissioner (Anupam Kher) and an anonymous caller (Naseeruddin Shah) demanding the release of four heinous terrorists. The film has an engrossing screenplay that makes you wait for the next scene with bated breath! No matter how hard you try, you will not be able predict the climax, which calls for some introspection and opens up several topics for discussion. Neeraj Pandey is the writer-director of this wonderful film. With great ingenuity, the director has spaced and sequenced the films scenes so carefully that the suspense keeps building up till the end, and just when you think it is all over, the climax brings in an unexpected twist!

No wonder it has appealed to Kamal Haasan so much! We do hope this rumour turns into a reality soon. It would be great to watch Kamal Haasan in such a good film!

Mammootty to team up with Kamal?

That Mammootty is to team up with Kamal Haasan, is a piece of news that's been doing the rounds in the vernacular press in Kerala lately. And if it's true, it's really big news indeed.

Kamal Haasan, whose most ambitious project yet Marmayogi has been shelved at least for the time being, first seemed to be decided on doing a comedy with himself pairing with stars like Mohanlal, Rishi Kapoor and Venkatesh. And then, recently came reports that the Ulaganayakan has taken a liking for the Hindi film, which has Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in key roles. The reports stated that Kamal was going to take up the re-make A Wednesday as his next project.

The latest buzz is that Kamal will be doing the role played by Naseeruddin Shah in the original, and Mammootty will be playing the role of the commissioner of police, which was played by Anupam Kher in the original. It's also learnt that Mammootty has given his nod for the role.

Love in Singapore will release on 23 January 2009. it has fetched a record Satellite rights in the hisotry of Malayalam cinema - 1.45 crore. vaisakha release is the distributors. it would be interesting to see what vaisakha is going to do with Love in Singapore and Red Chillies!

and there is a strong report by one P V SHibu about the media syndicate with solid evidence - how the media esp asianet tries to spread an impression that each and every project of mlal is a huge hit.

he also rightly mentions the way media handles perosnal allegations/ attacks. remember during munnar drama everyday youth cong leader came out with silly petty allegations against Ikka every channel aired it in prime time. but when there were widespread allegations (truths) about kurukshethra and its financier being sabarinath not a single channel dared to even mention the reports.

'Malayalam cinema could help Arabian'

Malayalam film superstar Mammootty, who has just returned from a two-day Dubai trip, Wednesday said that he had assured the full support of the Malayalam film industry to develop the Arabian cinema industry.

"The Arabian film industry is a growing one and they need a helping hand in expertise and technical know-how. We have assured the support of the Malayalam film industry by conducting workshops there," Mammootty, who was in the UAE city to attend the Dubai International Film Festival, told IANS.

The veteran actor said that he had held talks on conducting workshops with the 'Studio City' officials in Dubai.

Studio City in Dubai is part of the Smart City group that is to build the Rs.15 billion Smart City Kochi, a mega IT project that would create 90,000 new jobs.

"I had a detailed discussion with the CEO of Studio City and they will get back to us on the modalities of working together. If it clicks, it is going to be an additional work for the technicians of our industry here," Mammootty added.

'Big B' becomes 'Maanik Basha' in Tamil

The Mammootty-starrer Big B is to find its way to Tamil Nadu, in a Tamil-dubbed version, which will be released with a new name - Maanik Basha. Big B was the debut directorial venture of Amal Neerad, who had earlier cranked the camera for Bollywood films like James and Darna Zaroori Hai and also for the Malayalam movie Black.

Amal is now on to his second directorial venture, Sagar Alias Jackie, shoot for which is in progress. It seems that the decision to release the Tamil version has come up as Mammootty films have a safe market in Tamil Nadu.

Besides Mammootty the film has Nafisa Ali, Manoj K. Jayan, Bala, Pasupathy, Vijayaraghavan, Mamta Mohandas, Manasa, Sherveer Vakil etc. in key roles.

Mammootty ends 2008 on a happy note

Malayalam superstar Mammootty started the year 2008 with hit film "Roudram" and has ended it with blockbuster "Twenty 20". No wonder he says he is satisfied with his work.

"As always, I worked with utmost dedication and commitment and I am happy with the returns," Mammootty told IANS.

In his first release of the year "Roudram", Mammootty played a cop and in "Twenty 20" the actor was seen as a lawyer. His other releases were "Annan Thampi", "Paranuthu" and "Maya Bazaar".

While "Paranthu" and "Maya Bazaar" didn't do well at the box office, the success of other three films helped the veteran actor to remain on top seat.

But the superstar says his biggest achievement this year is that he completed two films - "Pazhazzi Raja" and "Kuttishrank".

"The shooting schedules of 'Pazhazzi Raja' and 'Kuttishrank' are over and I'm really excited and happy because I have high hopes from both the films. They will be released in 2009," said Mammootty.

Asked about a New Year resolution, he said: "I know only one job and that is acting and I will continue to do that."

Although he gave hits, he didn't receive any awards this year, but the actor is unperturbed.

"Haven't I told you many times that I take pride in my job and I would continue to do it the way I have done it all these years. I am not worried about other things," he said.

The superstar is off to Dubai Monday to attend the Dubai International Film Festival where his film "Orae Kadal" is being screened.

kutty sranku shoot will begin in mangalapuram (Kundapura) after pazhassi.

Bhootham will start on 27 December in ekm.

ore kadal is shown in Dubai international film fest.

Love in Singapore shoot is over.

Vyasan Edavanakkad, the publicity designer of 20-20 reveals the strategies behind the film and the vulgar tactics by mlal fans. mlal fans first asked to change 20-20 poster. then they demanded to shift the release of 20-20 for two weeks 'cause they said its release would affect kuru...

there are lots of letters exposing mlalfilms' common strategy - 17th day poster on6th day. 55th day poster on 35th day, etc, etc.
in fact in chithrabhoomi one guy from tvm - seems to be an ikka fan - has written a sharp letter attacking Ikka's secretary George and M fans assn leader. he compares them with mlal's antony and says compared to antony ikka gets least support from his men who are with them!

'Vande Matharam' shifted

Mammootty's 'Vande Matharam'' was earlier tipped as the Christmas release of the star, the only movie to make a release from the mega star for the year. But now the news is that the release of the movie will be shifted for a further date, as some of the scenes that were planned to get completed, didn't take off.

The movie has a couple of crucial scenes planned at Air force Academi. But the crew couldn't arrange permission to shoot these sequences which feature both Mammootty and Arjun, and hence the delay.

The movie which is a bilingual made in title 'Aruvadai' in Tamil will also have Sneha, Jai Akash and Jagadheesh in important roles.

Mammootty to complete 'Pazhassi Raja'

Every Mammootty movie is a big talk in Kerala. And so was 'Pazhassi Raja' which united the likes of M T, Ilayaraja, Sharath Kumar and Hariharan. But as the film went on with its shooting from schedules to schedules without getting completed, the takes about it have now started becoming stale.. Anyway, the megastar Mammootty is now determined to complete the movie which is in the production stages for more than a year, within this schedule.

And accordingly he has earmarked almost three weeks for the historical, whose final shoots will take place at Madikkery. The epic movie featuring big stars and made in heavy budgets is scripted by M T Vasudevan Nair.

Mammootty will then join the final schedule of 'Kutty Shranku' at Kandhapuram. And by the end of this year, he will have his two landmark films 'Pazhassi Raja' and 'Kutty Shranku' with Shaji N Karun complete. Both these movie have Mammootty in very rarest roles and will benefit him much in winning accolades at the national and international levels.

20: 20 continues to rule the box-office

Almost one month after its release, Twenty Twenty continues to retain the top slot at the box office, drawing crowds in large numbers to the theatres across Kerala. And next to 'Twenty Twenty', it's the Jayaram starrer that maintains its sway at the box office, followed next by 'Kurukshetra'. The most notable thing is that other than these three, there is not a single Malayalam film that has managed to stay afloat at the box office. Here's a look at this week's box office status:

Produced by Dileep's 'Graand Productions' for AMMA, Twenty Twenty, directed by Joshiy continues to draw crowds to the theatres across the state. Released on the 5th of November, this multi-starrer flick featuring almost all the prominent stars of Malayalam continues steadily in all centres. Scripted by Udayakrishna and Sibi K. Thomas, 'Twenty Twenty' has managed to make a gross collection of over Rs. 80 Lakhs in just three weeks.

The Akku Akbar-directed Veruthe Oru Bharya, released in the first week of August, still continues to maintain its stand at the box office as a family hit. The film, starring Jayaram and Gopika in lead roles, recently celebrated 125 days of successful run. Scripted by K. Gireesh Kumar, Veruthe Oru Bharya offers nothing new in terms of the story, and may even be called 'old wine in new bottle'. But since the film has been neatly packaged as a decent family entertainer, it found takers with the family audience. Moreover, Pyramid Saimira, the distributors of the film, have been taking care to market the film with utmost care and zest. The film has brought in a gross collection of over Rs.55 Lakhs.

The Major Ravi-directed Mohanlal-starrer Kurukshetra, based on the Kargil War, had won over the hearts of film-lovers all over Kerala as a well-made war film. Of course people exposed to Hollywood and Bollywood war movies might not have liked 'Kurukshetra', but the director had made the film as neatly as he could by remaining within the budget constraints of Malayalam Cinema. The film, shot on locations in Kargil, has brought in a gross of about Rs.42 Lakhs in 50 days.

Mallanum Mattevanum will be produced under the banner of ABS Combines by Anto Joseph, Benny P. Nayarambalam and Shafi. Details about the theme, cast etc. are yet to be divulged. It's learnt that the film may start rolling in the first half of 2009.

'Yugapurushan' to start this January

R Sukumaran's take on the lives of the greatest social reformer from Kerala, Sreenarayanaguru , made in the title 'Yugapurushan' has been in the news for the last couple of years. It was megastar Mammooty who was supposed to do the title role of Guru, but at some point of time Mammootty withdraw from being the epic guruji and humbly told the producers that he may not be the right choice as his screen image may interfere with the icon, the best known name in Kerala who fought for social equality, anticlassicism and freedom.

The picture of guru, who lived in the first part of the last century, was quite familiar with the masses and so Mammootty hardly believed that he can substitute the looks and grace of the original figure.

Then the crew was for some time engaged in a mamootth task of fixing another fresh face for being Guruji. They have now finalized for two persons who will depict the life of guruji between his thirties to the seventies. According to the latest reports, the movie will start it shoot, calling the first shot on the first of Januray. R Sukumaran and its cameraman Ramachandra Babu will be canning the first shot on Mammootty himself, who will now appear as a contemporary revolutionary who lived in the times of guru and supported his ideals.

The director is planning for a shoot of two month in and outside Kerala. The detailed story boards of each of the shots are being prepared to control the budgets. The movie will also present the historic figures like Gandhiji, Tagore, Chattambi Swamikal, Kumaranasan, T K Madhavan, Ayyankaali, and Mannathu Padmanabhan who all lived and interacted with guru, when he was vigorously fighting for his ideals.

Know who is appearing as Swami Vivekanandha in the movie? It is none other than superstar Mohanlal. With the coming together of such a big cast in the recreation of a life of historic personality, 'Yugapurushan' will be one of the most sought after films of 2009.

Record opening for 20 20

As expected AMMA's multistarrer 'Twenty: 20' opened to big audiences, all around the state. Though an unofficial boycott from Mohanlal fans has affected in some parts of the southern districts, the movie made a record collection of 1.8 crores from the day one.

This a record initial collections which happened only because of the fifty percent hike in the ticket rates on the day one and also due to the wide release strategy of the movie .'Twenty: 20' was released in 110 theatres.

On the second day the collections picked up steadily due to good word of mouth. But the overall collection on the second day will be definitely 35 percent lesser than the day one, primarily due to the reduction of the ticket rates to normal, following a stay order from the court.

The movie is expected to have a steady house full run at least for the next four weeks. All other Malayalam films that are now in theatres are definitely affected by 'Twenty :20' which has left them will daily collections as low

Top 5 - ‘Twenty: 20’ leads the list

The arrival of 'Twenty: 20' has deterred the prospects of every other films in the theatres, especially Malayalam films. The movie is undoubtedly the clear favourite among masses without any negative word of mouth. The top five list of the weekend are:

1. 'Twenty: 20' - The magnum opus from AMMA-the mother of all multistarrers with a big cast line of 65 stars, five heroes and almost all heroines of Mollywood has taken the industry and trade circuits by storm. The movie has already collected around 3 crores from two days, which itself is a record. Expected to clear off every existing records, the movie is destined to collect at least a clear 15-20 crores from the state itself.

2. Kurukshetra - At number 2 is the Mohanlal's war sage 'Kurukshetra'. This Major Ravi movie entering its fifth week is heavily affected in collections by AMMA's multistarrer and is continuing in theatres with a collection around 40-50 percent in metros. This big budgeted movie, which was expected to make a free run towards a super hit will now end up being a mere hit.

3. Quantum of Solace - James bond's new avatar in 'Quantum of Solace' was released this week in 35 centers. In the major metros, the movie registers interesting collections, but in lesser centers the first day itself was weak.

4. Mayabazaar - Mammootty's Ramzan movie is entering its sixth week, but in a very few centers. The wide release of this T A Rasaaq flick, has helped to lessen the big losses. But the movie may not escape from being a loser to its distributors, primarily due to its non releasing in the A centers in the first week. With the movie also ending up as a loser, it is the continuous two from Mammootty after his recent flop in 'Parunthu'.

5. Veruthe Oru Bharya – Jayaram's comeback movie will celebrate its hundred days, next week in select theatres. The weekends have the 50-60 percent collections in metro cities, while the shifting centers also show good feed backs. The movie is in fact the second biggest earner of the year, after 'Annan Thampi'.

Also in the theatres are Faschion, Golmaal Returns, Renjith's 'Thirakkatha', 'Parthan Kanda Paralokam' and Tamil movies, 'Dhanam' 'Saroja' and 'Kathalil Vizhunthen'.

New mammootty times is out [Nov01-15]

New MTimes is out.
all of us should have a copy of it.
it has a fantastic cover - four close ups from 20-20, Love in Singapore, Pazhassi and Kutty Sranku.
Â
and the cover feature says Why Mammootty is ALWAYS no.1? a reply to 20-20 poster controversy.
Â
the feature inside is really an intelligent reply to all the petty, silly, narrow minded controversies raised by mlal fans. it lists the rise of both Ms to stardom and reminds that ikka was way ahead in reaching superstardom in kerala. it details the major hits and misses of both Ms. it also gives comparative list of films from 2000 onwards - both M and mlal. one should see the list to believe it. it is so fair and UNBIASED. 'cause it lists Annan Thambi as Mega hit and raoudram as hit - not as super hit. and then says parunthu is FLOP.
Â
no other fan magazine in the world will be so straightforward! ! mlal has two hits in 2008 - madambi and ichinthavishayam. but he has 3 flops - college kumaran, mizhikal sakshi, and akashagopuram.
Â
the detailed figures are really interesting and should shut the mouths of many m critics!
Â
the issue begisn with Bheemom reports and lots of great photos.
Mtimes also has shoot report of Love in Singapore and Fazil-dileep project.
the theatre report says Maya Bazar collected 6.5 crore gross from 30 days. from 25 days' collection itself, the film got back the production cost. it collected more from Malabar area.
Â
another BIG NEWS is that satellite right for MBazar is Rs 1.30 CRORE whereas the same channel paid only Rs 90 lakh for Kurukshethra! !

20 20 record collection:

Kochi, Nov 10 (IANS) Malayalam movie "Twenty 20", which brings together top stars Mammooty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Jayaram, was released last week and has broken the box-office record in the state.

"Though released only in 115 theatres Wednesday, the opening day collection crossed Rs.10 million. It remains strong. Now, instead of worrying about repaying debtors, I can laugh all the way to the bank and plan future strategy on the basis of this successful formula," actor-producer Dilip told IANS..

Dilip produced the movie on behalf of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) in the capacity of being its vice-president.

Virtually the entire Malayalam film industry worked for "Twenty 20".

However, the film had a few blushes.

Many of the fans of Mohanlal, AMMA's general secretary, initially boycotted the film because their icon was "not accorded adequate importance in the publicity material".

"We were angry that Mammooty was given the pride of place in the posters at the centre while the bigger draw Mohanlal was featured at the edge in the pre-release posters. That irked us initially. But when we saw that Mohanlal was given equal importance in the film, our feelings were assuaged and we have endorsed 'Twenty 20' in a big way," said Hemachandran Nair, a fan based in Trippunithura near Kochi.

Over 400 cinema halls in small towns and villages of Kerala have refused to touch the film due to distribution hiccups.

Veteran director Joshy made the film, which was scripted by writer duo - Uday Krishna and Shibi K. Thomas.

The movie was launched in December 2007 by Dilip with an initial investment of Rs.10 million. It took almost 11 months to complete - an unusually long period for a Malayalam film.

20 20 on Nov 07

Kochi, Oct 29 (IANS) The decks have been cleared for the Nov 7 release of the blockbuster "Twenty Twenty", one of the costliest Malayalam films that features superstars Mohan Lal, Mammootty and several other top actors, after a film body ended the impasse between two warring groups of distributors.

The Kerala Cine Exhibitors' Federation (KCEF), based in major cities, and the Cine Exhibitors' Association (CEA), representing the rural centres of the state, buried their differences over the deferred release of "Twenty Twenty".

KCEF and CEA were locked in an impasse following the former insisting on an initial run in the cities while the latter termed the move as a boon for video pirates.

This led to the threat of CEA boycotting the film. The dispute was finally sorted out after the Kerala Film Chamber intervened, a press statement said Wednesday.

"Exactly 118 prints will be released all over Kerala to bring joy to fans of both the stars (Mohan Lal and Mammootty)," a joint statement from both the organisations said.

Produced by actor Dilip for the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) - the body that represents virtually all actors in Kerala - the movie is named after the shortest version of cricket is directed by veteran Joshi.

Kutty Sharanku - A different Mammootty and narratives

For all those who are in the view that Mammootty has been caring less for his illustrious career ,with being in silly looking films for a while ',this is a good news. His first movie with world renowned director Shaji N Karun, is shaping up well. The second schedule of this movie ¡Kuttyshranku¢ was completed at Kollam and everyone including the megastar is thrilled with the experiences in the film.
Kutty Shranku's plot uses the itineraries of magical realism, to tell the life of Kutty, (the character played by Mammootty) ,through the memories of three women. The story takes place in three decades in three different islands , where kuttyshranku , a boat driver with no whereabouts ,enters into relationship with three women.
The movie has three heroines used as surrealistic impressions of the spirituality of Buddhism, interest in the art forms and other human concerns .Bengali actress Kamalinee Mukherjee, Padmapriya and Meenakumari, a Srilankan actress don the three female leads as the sister of nataka asan Pemena, a mute Kali and revamma, who is a Buddhist. The story is told through the viewpoints of these three heroines, who after the death of Kutty, remember him. Padmapriya who appears a Buddhist monk in the film is going to appear with a bald head in the third schedule of shoot.
Mammootty is working for the first time with Shaji as a director, though Shaji had worked as a cameraman in Mammootty flicks like ¡Koodevide' and 'Arappatta kettiya Gramam'. Mammootty who appears in three different get ups in the movie takes this character as a challenge and is in all praise for the director .''We have found some form of chemistry which has worked well for the film", says Mammootty . ''Shaji has a special knack in getting the best out of me and so I am working overtime, learning the steps of ¡chavittu natakam¢ and even crooning a song in my own voice ''.
Mammootty also sang a ¡chavittu natakam¢ based song 'Karikkutty. .ente kalel' set to music by Issac Thomas Kottukappally, for the film. Shaji has already shot the visuals of this song, in the first schedule which was shot at Kumarakom.
Scripted by P F Mathews, the movie also has Sai Kumar, Siddique, Suresh Krishna, Amit, Kozhikode Sharadha, and Rajeev Kalamasserry in other important roles. The movie also is the debut venture of cinematographer Anjali Shukla, a former assistant to Santosh Sivan. Anjali's camera is said to be one of the highlights of ¡Kutty Shranku¢ which is being shot utilizing the different climatic ambiance of the state.
¡Kutty Shranku¢ produced by reliance entertainments in the banner of Big Pictures will be aiming for international accolades, rightly so from a crew that is well experienced in the making of master creations and one that had been always showered with awards in the past. With the teaming up of a great director, lead actors and the supporting cast , the movie is expected to end up as a great work, which will be always remembered as a classic..

interview with mammootty

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who has been acting for over 25 years,
says he is overwhelmed by the love he's received from people and hopes
to play many more roles before hanging his boots.
"The love and liking that people have for me has bowled me over
and I am simply overwhelmed, " Mammootty told IANS in an interview..

The actor, who has more than 300 films to his credit, says he is not
at all afraid of growing old.
"You and me, including the universe, are getting older by the
day. It is just a feeling and I am not at all afraid."
Mammootty hopes to do many more films and play different kinds of characters.
He already has several movies lined up in his kitty.
"My hands are full with many projects with leading directors like
Renjith, Hariharan, and Blessy," said the superstar who is now
shooting for "Pothan Vava" at the Central Prison premises
here.
The actor confesses to being a bad investor. He prefers his wife handling
his money.
"I am a bad investor and over the years I have realised that banks
are the best bet. Now my wife handles my money."
Excerpts from the interview:
Q: What has been most satisfying for you?
A: It is simple, because lots and lots of people like me. The love
and liking that people have for me has bowled me over and I am simply
overwhelmed.
Q: Are you happy with your achievements?
A: These days, what I achieved in 25 years can be achieved in a year's
time, so I don't think I have done anything great.
Q: What is the reason behind your success?
A: Hard work and only hard work has paid off for me. Being a very small
industry, hard work is a must. It has worked wonders for me most of
the time.
Q: How emotional are you?
A: I am very emotional and I get really upset when any of my films
flop. I also get hurt over silly things. That is the way I am, I can't
help it.
Q: How is your latest release "Bhargavacharitham Moonnam
Khandam" doing?
A: It's bombed. It was a black comedy and was not received well.
Q: So what next?
A: Will do a 'white comedy' (laughs)
Q: How is the Malayalam industry doing these days?
A: The industry is doing well and the digital revolution will soon
become the order of the day. There has been a remarkable improvement
in content also ... all this would certainly add colour to our industry.
Q: What is the future of Malayalam cinema, according to you?
A: More meaningful cinema is being made and that is the reason why
you see a rejuvenated Malayalam film industry. But more films aimed
at youth are needed.
Q: What are your future projects?
A: My hands are full with many projects with leading directors like
Renjith, Hariharan, and Blessy ... to name a few.
Q: What sort of characters do you portray in these films?
A: Each one of them is a different character. It includes a Tamil laundry
worker, a spoilt brat, a writer and many interesting characters.
Q: What do you do with all your money?
A: I am a bad investor and over the years I have realised that banks
are the best bet. First of all, where is the time to work on your investments?
Now my wife handles my money.
Q: Any chance of becoming a producer?
A: There are others to do that job.
Q: What about direction?
A: May be...

jayasurya again with mammootty

Jayasurya had always been one of the most entertaining actors among
the younger lot. His sequences in films always provided the viewers
with the needed amusement with light hearted comedies and different
maneuvers .But this was not the case with him, in films in which he
shared the screen space with Super star Mammootty.

He had been with the megastar in movies like `Parunthu' and `Bus
Conductor'. But in both the movies, the actor's presence were
sidelined with little dialogues and nothing much to remember.

Had the actor been presented in some interesting scenes, these movies
could have definitely benefited from the inclusion even in side roles
like last years `Arabikatha' and `Chocolate'.

Anyhow, the actor is again going to be seen once again with Mammootty
in the new Rafi-Mecartin movie ''Love in Bangkok''. This time, it is
heard that the actor will be presented in a role that will have
adequate meat in it, to show his mettle in the effortless comic
sequences.

Let us just wait for sometime to know whether it is `third time-
lucky', for Jayasurya.

'Twenty Twenty' for Oct 24

AMMA's magnum opus 'Twenty:20' will grace the Kerala theatres on the 24th of this month.

The production crew is presently shooting one pending song at Mauritius with Dileep and Bhavana. Majority of the dubbing and post production activities of the movie are over in the Lal studio, Kochi. The crew members are even excited to see the final cut of the movie which is around two hours and forty five minutes.

As per the latest reports, the movie is poised to reach 118 theatres across the state of Kerala on October 24.

Four films likely for Christmas

After a very dull Onam (the dullest in the past many years) and a rather dull Ramzan (with just one of the Eid releases likely to turn a big hit), it's now Christmas that the Malayalam film industry is looking forward to. And to cash in on the Christmas season, it's heard that four films are getting ready.

While Mammootty and Mohanlal will clash once again during Christmas at the box office, there is also a Dileep starrer in the offing plus Shafi's youthful flick Lollypop. Mammootty will have for this Christmas the bilingual Vande Matharam (Aruvadai in Tamil), in which he co-stars with Tamil star 'Action King' Arjun and with Sneha as the heroine. Mohanlal will have for his Christmas release the Shaji Kailas-directed murder mystery Red Chillies, scripted by A.K.Sajan.

Dileep, who hasn't had a release for quite some time, will most likely have one this Christmas in the Deepu Karunakaran-directed Crazy Rascals (that seems to be the name that the makers have finalized at last, after announcing almost half-a-dozen other titles). The Shafi-directed youthful Lollypop, with Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Kunchacko Boban in lead roles, will also hit screens during Christmas and given Shafi's track record, which comprises of hits only, this film is likely to turn a hit too.

In addition to these four films, some other smaller ones too may find their way to the theatres during or immediately before the Christmas season. AMMA's prestigious multi-starrer Twenty Twenty may probably get released this month itself, while a couple of Suresh Gopi films (Bullet and Boss) too are awaiting release. Another Suresh Gopi film Violet, which is in the making, may also make it to the theatres during the Christmas season. Well, there's still lot of time for the final picture to emerge

Mammooty speaks on Kuttysrankku

Ace director Shaji.N Karun completed the second schedule of his off-beat Mammootty film Kuttysranku, in Chavara and Sasthankotta near Kollam. Mammootty was thrilled by his experience in working for Shaji.
The master actor says: " It is a different role that I'm enacting in Kuttysranku. The film moves with the memories of three women, which itself is a different method of story telling. The story takes place in three decades in three different islands and revolves around Kuttysranku' s relationship with the three women who come into his life. Shaji has tried to bring some magical realism into the film."
Mammootty is working for the first time with Shaji as a director. In the early 80's Shaji has worked as a cameraman in Mammootty films like Padmarajan's classic Kooduevide and Arapatta Ketiya Gramam.
The actor is all praise for Shaji, the master director. " He has a special knack in getting the best out of me. We have some kind of chemistry which has worked well for the film. There is a freshness about the film, which has made the actor in me work overtime. Do you know in a scene I do a Chavittunadakam (street play) and sing a song? As an actor, I'm very pleased with the way the film has shaped out."
Mammootty has three heroines in the film- Kamalinee Mukherji, Padmapriya and Meenakumari (in pic). There is a fourth lady in camerawoman Anjali Shukla, a former assistant of Santosh Sivan. Anjali's camera is said to be one of the highlights of Kuttysranku

Top 5

1.'Kurukshetra' - The biggest release ever in Mollywood, `Kurukshetra'
is keeping its spirits high with good initial collections and good
word of mouth. The movie is expected to creative collection records in
the opening weeks. In many of the metros the film is being shown in
three centers while seven towns have the movie in two centers. The
movie is currently entertaining packed houses in around 111 centers.
Mohanalal is again into one of his best role's in recent times, living
as colonel Mahadevan.

2. 'Mayabazaar' - After a big first week, the interest shown on the
film is gradually coming down. The Mammootty factor is the only
positive thing in the movie which is already written off by the
critics as a bitter movie. Majority of the viewers are in the view
that the unimpressive scripts by TA Razaaq have spoiled the entire
proceedings. The movie is registering 60-80 percent collections in
major centers. The great opening week collections due to the
continuous holidays, and release in eighty odd centers will help the
movie to end up in between an average earner and a hit.

3. `Parthan Kanda Paralokam' - Another movie that is handicapped by
inane scripting, 'Parthan Kanda Paralokam' benefits majorly due to its
timing of the release. The movie which has been shifting its release
for the last six months now had opened to safe collections due to the
continuous holidays and celebration mood of Ramzan and then Pooja
holidays. This Jayaram starrer will also end up as an average earner.

4. `Veruthe Oru Bharya' - Jayaram's return movie 'Veruthe Oru Bharya'
is still holding to fourth position, even after two months in
theatres. The movie continues in select theatres all across Kerala,
and is expected to end up as a mega hit.

5. `Thirakatha' - Renjith's flick on tinsel town had very good word of
mouth. But the movie, even after great reviews didn't got lucky to end
up as a hit. The movie makers will have to satisfy themselves, as the
movie will get to safer side of collections for its producers
