'Pokkiri Raja' progressing at Ottapaalam

'Pokkiri Raja' directed by Vaishakh and produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam is progressing at Varikasseri mana near Ottapaalam. It's the story of two brothers, Raja and Surya Narayanan, sons of Madhavan Master, who was loved and respected by the villagers. Rugmini is his only daughter. She was married to Sub Inspector Sugunan. Raja was a brat and one day there occured a clash with Puthiyara family and after the incident he fled to Madurai. There he became the leader of a quotation gang.

At this situation Madhavan Master wanted his young son Surya to be educated and make him an employee. But Surya too showed the belligerent character. He did not give any importance to his father's advice. Raja and Surya had only one aim to revenge against the members of Puthiyara family. In any manner they wanted to put an end to the power of that family. Another character Krishan Mama gave all support to Raja and Surya since he was a goonda in his teenage. Madhavan Master was fed up with the attitude of sons. He asked his son in law Sugunan to advice them. It was during this time Surya fell in love with Aswini. Mamootty portray the role of Raja and Prithwiraj as Surya Narayanan. Bindhu Panicker plays the role of Rugmini and Suraj as her husband Sugunan. Nedumudi handles the role of Madhavan Master and Vijayaraghavan as Krishna Mama. Shreya Sharan plays the role of Raja's lover Aswini. Udayan- Sibi team had penned the screen play. Shaji cranks the
camera. Kaithapram wrote the lyrics and Jazzy Gift has scored the music. Other cast includes Suman, Salim Kumar, Saikumar, Riyas Khan, Saadique, Johny, Ambika Mohan, Thesni Khan and others.

Mammootty creates a flutter at the KU Youth Festival

Megastar Mammootty created a flutter at the Kerala University Youth festival on Tuesday, when he arrived to be a part of the valedictory function.

The valedictory event saw the Megastar handing over the trophies to Kalathilakam Madhavi Chandran and Kalaprathibha Sreekuttan.

A dashing Mammootty in his speech admitted that he hasn't competed in the Youth festival since he lacked confidence. However, as an actor he finds himself competing with a younger generation today.

The audience welcomed the actor's speech with a tremendous applause.

Film Critics' Awards announced; Innocent is the Best Actor

The Film Critics' Awards for the year 2009 have been announced. Innocent has bagged the Best Actor award for his performance in 'Patham Nilayile Theevandi'. Kaniha is the Best Actress for her portrayal of a middle class girl in 'Bhagyadevatha'.

'Pazhassi Raja' and 'Ividam Swargamanu' shared the honor for Best Picture. Hariharan is the Best Director of the year (Pazhassi Raja).

Jagathy Sreekumar has been selected for a special award taking into consideration his overall contributions to cinema.

The Vishu fight plan

The year's Vishu which is one of the safest season for movie release in Mollywood, will be a little over shadowed by the Indian Premier league which is planned between April 2nd and April 25. Anyhow the industry is not much bothered about IPL and is planning to follow its course as planned.

The movie release for the season will start three weeks back, with Mammootty's 'Pramaani' by B Unnikrishnan planning to grace the theatres as early as March 26. The movie will at least get three weeks free run before the actual day of the festival.

Following on the 2nd of April will be Lal's sequel to 'To Harihar Nagar', titled as 'In Ghost House Inn', the humour thriller featuring Mukesh, Jagadheesh, Siddhique and Ashokan. On the 9th of April, Mollywood will have 'April Fool' directed by Viji Thampy featuring Siddhique and Jagadheesh.

On the day of Vishu, three biggies will get into theatres, Mohanlal's 'Alexander The Great', Prithviraj's 'Thanthonny' and Dileep's 'Pappy Appacha' which are all planning for wide releases. Anyhow the Vishu release plans will make every film goer pretty sure that they will definitely have plenty to cheer for the vacation.

Drona falls

'Drona' had been the name of fallen movies in all the other languages of the Indian cinema. Be it the Big budget movie in Hindi featuring Abhisek Bachchan or others in South, every movie with the name had been a disaster. And when the jinx was sounded for the Mollywood film, the makers added a 2010 to it believing on some weird superstition. Anyhow, the first impression from the initial days seems to be that even the addition numerals to the title didn't work in favour of the movie.

The movie has already started loosing at box office and it will be hard to make a recover in the coming days. Most of the critics and fans feel that the movie has the style but lack that essential punch and dialogues needed in the proceedings. Most of the blame is put on its scriptwriter A K Saajan, whose sequences failed to work. The movie as per the trade may not sink as it is sure to earn a good amount as the satellite rights. And with the next Mammootty movie 'Pramaani' scheduled only after two months, 'Drona' may somehow retain its cost of production.

The biggest hit of the last year 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja'' has completed hundred royal days in Kerala theatres. The movie is still running in five release centres where it is completing a historical run. The movie which is tauted as the biggest hit of the recent years is reported to have amassed around 17 crores in its theatrical run.

Film's release is charted for March.24. According to B.C.Joshi(Producer), Ist copy of the film will be ready within a budjet less than 3 Crore. Already he has got profits by selling it's distribution rights to Omkar,Souparnika &Big screen. & Another big info, which i hav got from him is that MADAMBI collected a distributor share of 3.25 Crore from the total run.
Mammookka's next project, which is going to shoot is POKKIRIRJA followd by GANAPATHY. According to Mammookka, GANAPATHI's script is nice & will surely click as a family+Comedy movie. Jagadeesh film will start only after GANAPATHI.

After their super hit combo in Roudram, superstar Mammootty and hit maker Ranji Panicker will once again team up with a revenge drama titled Kaduvakkunnil Kuruvachan, in which Mammootty plays the role of a Christian planter.

Set on the lines of superstar Suresh Gopi's all-time blockbuster Lelam, the film is expected to start rolling in August and would be Mammootty's Christmas release. The heroine and the supporting cast of the film are yet to be finalised.

Mammootty to get Lifetime Achievement award

Mammootty Veteran actor Mammootty has been named for the 'Lifetime Achievement' award for his all-round contribution to the Malayalam film industry by Malabar Chamber of Commerce.

The award was announced on the occasion of the Chamber celebrating its 80th anniversary. However, the date and day on which the awards would be presented were not announced. The MCC that came into being in 1929, presently has 1500 members and has an association of another 5000 through 50 odd affiliated organizations of traders and industrialists.

Drona pushed from Jan 21 to Jan 28

Mammootty's film Drona, which was supposed to release on January 21, has now been postponed to January 28. The film stars Mammootty in a whole new avatar. The remaining cast of the film includes Navya Nair, Kaniha, Thilakan, Manoj K Jayan, Vijayakumar, among others.

Directed by Shaji Kailas, the film is produced by M Mani under the banner of Aroma Movies International.

Mammootty to be a mahout in 'Ganapathi'

Megastar Mammootty would be playing a mahout in V M Vinu's new film titled 'Ganapathi'.

Scripted by Reji Nair, the story of this film is said to be so interesting, that Mammootty had immediately agreed to be a part of the project when he heard it.

Initially Reji had approached Akku Akbar with the story, and Mammootty had even allotted dates for Akku. However, since the director was not happy with the story, the project never materialized.

Now with V M Vinu at the helm of affairs, 'Ganapathi' should start its shoot real soon. The heroine is yet to be finalized. Produced by Kala Nair, the film is an Omkar Nedumbulli Production.

Sneha at loggerheads with Mammootty!

Sneha has grabbed yet another major role opposite Mammootty. She had earlier played Mammootty's heroine in the superhit 'Thuruppu Gulan' and in the Tamil film 'Aanandam'.

She has also completed the bilingual film 'Vande Mataram', in which she plays a pilot and Mammootty's female lead.

The latest is that she would be donning the role of a Panchayat Secretary who is at loggerheads with the highly corrupt Panchayat President, played by Mammootty himself in 'Pramani'.

Sneha would play Janaki, who is constantly locking horns with Viswanatha Panikker, the Panchayat President. B Unnikrishnan's script offers plenty of scope for the actress to display her acting potentials in a powerful role.

It sure looks like Sneha is here to stay. She is also rumoredly Mammootty's heroine in 'Pokkiri Raja', to be directed by Vaisakh and in which the Megastar teams up with Prithviraj.

‘Pokkiri Raja’ to start today

Mammootty and Prithviraj's second film together 'Pokkiri Raja' will kick off its shoot at Pollachi today. The movie will have both of the stars as brothers. Scripted by Udhay Krishna-Sibi K Thomas, the movie will have Shriya Saran for the first time in Malayalam. The songs written by Kaithapram and set to music by Jassie Gift for the movie, are said to be potential hits.

Mammootty had earlier did a guest role in the Prithviraj movie 'One Way Ticket', that didn't fare well at the Box Office.

Kuruvachan for Christmas

After becoming a Kannadiga in the super hit 'Chattambinaadu' for this Christmas, Mammootty will don the role of "Kaduvakkunnil Kuruvachan" for the next Christmas. This movie is titled after the central character, a Christian planter. Written and directed by Renji Panikkar, the movie is planned as a revenge drama, which will start by the mid of August.

Renji for the time being is busy, fixing the heroine and other characters and filling the scripts with bombastic dialogues, which is his master piece. Mammootty's last movie with Renji Panikkar 'Raudram' had a good opening and some of the best sequences, but less publicity affected its chances of it becoming a big hit.

Yesterday met Mammookka at Vismaya Max,Trivandrum..Drona shoot ends up today with 2 underwater scenes..Release date confirmed from Aroma Mohan and Shaji kailas on Jan.27th...Mammookka & shaji watched some edited portions ...All are happy with the final product...Two songs in the film....One is a female song and other special intro song for Pattazhi namboothiri...Both songs are good... Trailors will be sensored on coming monday and will be aired soon.. Mammookka attended Asianet awards-09 & will return from Tvm today 11 am.

The movie "Drona" which has been directed by Shaji Kalias is all set to hit screens on January 28th. The movie will be released in 100 theatres across the state. Christmas Box-office:3 Mammootty films out of 5 in hit chart

The Christmas -New Year season was a pretty good one for the Malayalam industry, which produced a few hits in Box office. The top five films of the week are:

Mammootty-Chattampi nadu'Chattampi Nadu' - This is definitely the winner among the Christmas releases, which continues to bring in full houses. The initial collections are amazing, all across Kerala. The kannada punch lines scripted by Benny and stylish mass sequences with Mammootty, donning the character of Virendra Mallaya after Rajamankyam is said to be reasons for the consistent collections that the film is fetching. 'Chatampi Nadu' is already declared as a 'big hit' among filmi circles.

'Ividam Swargamanu' - Director Roshan Andrews could not make his comeback successful by delivering a hit to favorite hero Mohanlal, who is passing through a bad phase in his career. The film which is advertised as a realistic thriller, couldn't match its predecessors in narrative skills. Aggressive marketing is now the key for the film to hold on, as its re-edited version on theatres looks more polished than the original version.

'Gulumaal' - 'Gulumaal' has landed safely and will provide as a moderate success to its makers. The film with average collections moves on to the sixth week, but will find it harder to survive the next week's big Malayalam releases.

'Pazhassi Raja' - Hariharan's Magnum Opus still maintains its audience pull, to remain in the top of the charts. There is no question about 'Pazassi Raja' is already stated as a biggest grosser in Malayalam cinema surrounded by trade circles.

'Paleri Manikkamm' - In the major cities, the film has invited renewed interest from the audience. In the weekends the film is registering eighty percent collections. 'Paleri Manikkam' will soon reach its fifty days run by the end of this month.

Mammootty to be 'Kaduvakkunnil Kuruvachan'

Mammootty would work with action director Ranji Panicker for a film entitled 'Kaduvakkunnil Kuruvachan'.

Mammootty plays a Christian planter in the film, that marks the coming together of the actor and director after the super hit 'Roudram'.

The new film is rumoredly a revenge drama on the lines of 'Lelam'. The heroine and the supporting cast of the film are yet to be finalised.

The shooting of 'Kaduvakkunnil Kuruvachan' is expected to start in August, and the film would be Mammootty's Christmas release.
