2009- Nightmare year for Mohanlal at the box-office!

2009 has been Mohanlal's worst year in his 29 year old career!

One of the finest actors in Indian cinema and the superstar of Mollywood went through a lean patch as none of his films could click at the Kerala box-office.

But on the personal front, it was one of his most memorable year.

Take a look at his career graph in 2009, out of six releases- Red Chillies, Sagar alias Jacky, Bhagavan, Brahmaram, Angel John, Ividum Swargamanu only two will break even Sagar alias Jacky and Ividam Swargamanu and that too only through revenue from television and DVD rights.

Earlier, a Mohanlal film used to recover its cost from Kerala theatrical rights alone, but last year none of his films could sustain in the theatres.

What went wrong? Mohanlal's choice of films was bad as they lacked a solid script. The audiences could identify each and every scene from an earlier film. There was no variety and nor did he make an attempt to have a different look. Seven films (including the Tamil Unnaipol Oruvan) in a year, on an average one film every 50 days and the sameness made it look stale.
Mohanlal is going to celebrate his 50th birthday in style on May 21.
