Film Distributors' Association to stall releases after Apr. 16th

Following differences of opinion with the Film Exhibitors' Association, the Film Distributors' Association has decided to stall all fresh releases after the 16th of this month.

The conflict between the two associations has been prevalent for some time now. At first it was decided to have no further releases after the 5th of May. However since there was no action on the part of the Exhibitors' Association, the date was preponed to April.16th.

The theater owners however feel that the conditions that have been put forward by the distributors cannot be accepted. The theaters are already in a heavy financial crisis, and any more burden would prove detrimental, they said.

The distributors on the other hand feel, that since the number of theaters in all other cities except Trivandrum is very low, there exists a high chance for films to reach the 'hold over' status real soon. At present the 'hold over' status is calculated, excluding the collections for the noon show. The distributors insist that the collections of the noon show be also included while deciding if a film has reached the 'hold over' level or not.

The industry is hoping that the Distributors' Association will not go ahead with it's decision. They hope that the problem will be resolved at the Film Chamber meeting that has been scheduled for the 8th of April.
